The words schism and schismatic have found perhaps their heaviest usage in the history of Christianity, to denote splits within a church or religious body.
The Great Schism; either of two rifts within the Christian church.
More generally, especially outside of religion, the word schism may refer to the separation/split between two or more people, be it brothers, friends, lovers, etc. or any division of a formerly united movement in politics or any other field into two or more disagreeing groups.

I added the MIDI support and polished a lot of things in schism, making it more accessible to people with keyboards that look nothing like IBM-PC keyboards, keyboards with other layouts, and implemented some entirely new features- all while keeping faithful to the muscle memory people created with Impulse Tracker.
schism development is still active, and I highly recommend that people either get the CVS version directly from sourceforge, or from my binary builds that I make very frequently.
