Ethics in religion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jewish ethics may be said to originate with the Hebrew Bible, its broad legal injunctions, wisdom narratives and prophetic teachings.
Ethics in systematic form, and apart from religious belief, is as little found in apocryphal or Judæo-Hellenistic literature as in the Bible.
From the point of view of theistic religions, to the extent that ethics stems from revealed truth from divine sources, ethics is studied as a branch of theology.

Jewish tradition is rich in texts that can serve as important sources of guidance for bioethics.
Hermann Cohen's Religion of Reason out of the Sources of Judaism is a deep philosophical reading of ethics as mediated by the Jewish tradition.

Is Brit Milah Inconsistent with Jewish Ethics?
Jewish women have no distinguishing mark and they are the ones who determine a child’s Jewish identity.
Brit Milah is a traditional ceremony handed down for thousands of years and has been an intrinsic symbol of Judaism, yet some Jewish parents are beginning to question the ceremony and some are opting not to have the procedure performed on their sons.
In Genesis, circumcision is referred to as “the covenant between Me and you and your offspring to follow which you shall keep...,” however, a covenant is a “mutual pledge” and some parents acknowledge that their child is not capable of making a mutual pledge (Greenberg, 241).

Jewish Law - Articles ("Jewish Business Ethics: An Introductory Perspective")
Business ethics is the arena where the ethereal transcendent teachings of holiness and spirituality confront the often grubby business of making money and being engaged in the rat race that often comprises the marketplace.
It is business ethics, one could posit, above all, that shows God co-exists in the world rather than God and godliness being separate and apart.
It is the acid test of whether religion is truly relevant or religion is simply relegated to an isolated sphere of human activity.

Conservative Judaism does not view revelation as God “talking” to the Jewish people, as it were, revealing to them exactly what it is he wants them to do.
Of late, however, Reform thinkershave shown new sensitivity to the teachings of the post-biblical Jewish tradition and generally seek to ground their ethical judgments in the Jewish tradition as a whole.
That is not to say that they do not recognize a super-halakhic realm of Jewish ethical teaching.

Acceptance of divine authority for the Oral Torah defined the Jewish religion for the next fifteen hundred years after Avot, and still defines Orthodox Judaism today.
