Zerubbabel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the New Testament, Zerubbabel is mentioned in the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 1:12, as "Zorobabel"); he is alternately said to be the son of Shealtiel (or Salathiel, according to Matthew).
Zerubbabel is also mentioned in the Books of Haggai (1:10) and 1 Chronicles (3.17-19, where he is said to be the son of Pedaiah—a scribal error, according to the compilers of the Jewish Encyclopedia 1908).
Zerubbabel ("Seed of Babylon", an Assyrian-Babylonian name, according to the Jewish Encyclopedia, also known by the Persian name of Sheshbazzar), was the grandson of Jehoiachin, the second to last King of Judah.

 ZECHARIAH CHAPTER 4
The original Zerubbabel was a governor of the Jews, (Haggai 1:1) not a prophet or a priest.
Zerubbabel laid the literal foundation of the temple, but the church is Christ's temple foundation.
Verse 6 is a personal message to Zerubbabel from God.

INERRANCY EXPOSED - Who was the father of Zerubbabel?
But one passage in the Bible states that Zerubbabel was the son of Pedaiah: 1 Chronicles 3.17-20.
It is possible - although this is mere conjecture - that while Pedaiah physically fathered Zerubbabel, this was on behalf of his dead brother, Salathiel.
The firstborn whom she bears shall succeed to the name of the deceased brother, so that his name "may not be blotted out of Israel".

Still more beautiful and convincing were the words of the second speaker, when his turn came to establish the truth of his saying, that the king was the mightiest on earth.
Not only did Darius grant what Zerubbabel wished for, not only did he give him letters of safe-conduct, but he also conferred numerous privileges upon the Jews who accompanied Zerubbabel to Palestine, and he sent abundant presents to the Temple and its officers.
Finally Zerubbabel depicted in glowing words the power of woman, who rules even over kings.

Zerubbabel demonstrated executive ability in rebuilding the Temple after the first return from the Babylonian captivity.
Sufficient details about Zerubbabel are practically not known to most of the Companions.
Those who consider him the son of Pedaiah believe that Shealtiel, the elder of the two brothers, died without an heir, and had adopted Zerubbabel as his son.

 Study Notes:Zechariah 4:1-14
Zerubbabel would know when he put the final capstone on the temple that this word of prophecy was from God.
It is to be told to Zerubbabel that when he finishes this project, he will know that this was a true word of prophecy from God.
This seems to be a direct reference to the seven eyes on the Stone that was mentioned in chapter three, which was a title of Jesus Christ.

 ZERUBBABEL
After Zerubbabel, a Prince of Judah and a scion of the House of David, was appointed High Commissioner for Judah by the Persian King work recommenced on the Temple.
Work on the Temple proceeded slowly and was finally finished in 515 B.C. Zerubbabel, apparently was not present as there is no longer any mention of him in the Bible.
What may have happened, is, that the Persian King hearing Haggai s prophesy of the promised glory of the Temple, had Zerubabbel removed from the office.

This imagery has its fulfillment in material events of the very day they were uttered and the vision was given with the purpose of encouraging Zerubbabel first and Joshua next that God had chosen them as the leaders of the nation who would supply the strength and enthusiasm to all.

 The Genealogy of Jesus Christ
There’s no conclusive evidence to indicate that Zerubbabel ever took the title of ‘king’ in Jerusalem, but the promise concerned the eternal purpose of the Lord to bring the Messiah - God’s eternal Anointed King, the One who is both His authority and representation - through Zerubbabel’s family line at a future date.
Note that Zerubbabel’s name translated means ‘offspring of Babylon’ (that is, ‘born there’).
That both Jeshua and Zerubbabel were considered special by the people is beyond doubt.

Scripture Studies - Old Testament Study
Some of the obstacles that Zerubbabel faced were an active attempt to frustrate the plans to rebuild (see Ezra 4:1—4), administrative difficulties (see Ezra 5:3—5), lethargy on the part of the people (see Haggai 1:4), discouragement due to comparison to the former glory of the Temple (see Haggai 2:3), and smallness of vision (see Zech.
So, whereas the fourth vision was intended to be an encouragement for Joshua the high priest of Israel, the fifth vision of Zechariah is an encouragement to the Zerubbabel the governor of Israel, who leads the people in their service of God.
And a beautiful message it is, a message that not only applied to Zerubbabel and the remnant as they served the Lord, but that also applies to any service we do for the Lord.

Zerubbabel - International Standard Bible Encyclopedia
That Zerubbabel is said in the New Testament to be the son of Shealtiel the son of Neri instead of Jeconiah may be accounted for on the supposition that Shealtiel was the legal heir or adopted son of Jeconiah, who according to Jeremiah 36:30 was apparently to die childless.

Whatever may have been his blood relationship to Jeconiah, the Scriptures teach that Zerubbabel was his legal successor, of the 3rd or 4th generation.
