Yoga Sutras of Patanjali - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bhakti yoga - Karma Yoga - Jnana Yoga - Raja Yoga (Ashtanga Yoga)
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are one of the six darshanas of Hindu or Vedic schools and, alongside the Bhagavad Gita and Hatha Yoga Pradipika, are a milestone in the history of Yoga.
The Yoga Sutras are built on a foundation of Samkhya philosophy and the Bhagavad Gita.

Patanjali's yoga is known as raja, or "royal," yoga.
Hindu tradition in general recognizes three main kinds of yoga: jnana yoga, the path of realization and wisdom, bhakti yoga, the path of love and devotion to a personal God, and karma yoga, the path of selfless action.
Contemporary systems of yoga, such as those of Sri Aurobindo Ghose and Sri Chinmoy Ghose, stress that spiritual realization can be attained without the withdrawal from the world characteristic of the older traditions.

 Kriya Yoga Publications: Books
"The Thirumandiram is as important a yoga scripture as the 'Bhagavad Gita', the 'Yoga Sutras', or the voluminous and inspiring 'Yoga Vaisihtha'.
Patanjali refers to his yoga as "Kriya Yoga": the "yoga of action with awareness." His Yoga-Sutras are universally considered to be among the two or three most important texts in the field of yoga.
Marshall Govindan's Kriya Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Siddhars is a valuable addition to the study of Yoga in general and the Yoga-Sutra in particular.

Yoga Darsana Institute Current Shop - Sankara on the Yoga Sutras (A Full Translation of the Newly Discovered Text)
This is a complete English translation of a highly significant Sanskrit sub-commentary vivarana purporting to be by Sankara, on the Yoga sutras of Patanjali.
The long commentary on God completely jettisons the narrow sutra definition in favour of a supreme Creator, as evidenced by many ingenious arguments on the lines of the present-day cosmological anthropic principle.

Ask Yogi Marlon _ Yoga Advice by Yogi Marlon of askyogimarlon.com -- yoga questions answered on-line
To understand this concept is to understand why chanting in Sanskrit has a significant power that other forms of prayer unfortunately lack.
Once convinced, I suggest you use the simple words of "namaste" and "Om shanti" often, with intention and with full knowledge of their positive universal effect.
Each yoga class I attend ends with the word, "Namaste," and I’ve noticed you end each column with the words, "Om Shanti." Can you please tell me the origins and meaning of each?
