The committed love of husband and wife, father and mother, which is rooted in their own self-surrender to Jesus Christ in faith provides the Lord the opportunity to call forth men already formed in the faith and in human virtues.

 What Are Lay Vocations?
Note that profession is not the same as being bound by religious vows, which are made by religious orders living in community.
Married or single Catholic women and men from all walks of life are able to join secular orders -- monastic orders (such as the Benedictines) admit laity as oblates, while the mendicant orders (such as the Franciscans and Carmelites) have secular orders.
