Valmiki - Composer of Ramayana - Indian Mythology
Now, Valmiki had not had any formal education, so he was surprised that the curse that he had uttered had come out in the shape of a hymn in Sanskrit.
While Valmiki was brooding over this episode, Lord Brahma appeared before him and said, "It is the will of the Lord that you shall compose the story of the life of Rama.
You shall be henceforth known as Valmiki, the sage." (In Sanskrit, Valmika=Ant-hill).

Shoba yatra taken out by Valmiki community
Maharishi Valmiki’s divine teachings, concepts and thoughts were not merely for a particular community, he was ‘worshipable’ for all castes and communities.
It was asserted in the complaint that Sant Valmiki was considered as ‘bhagwan’ (God) by the Valmiki community while Suresh Oberoi used the word ‘Daku’ (dacoit) for Sant Valmiki deliberately.
He said that Maharishi Valmiki was one of the sages who devoted his life for the communal harmony and brotherhood.

Lamhfada: Articles: Summer 2000: "The Development of Sita's Divinity in the Rama-katha"
In Valmiki's Ramayana, the divinity of Rama (and thus, according to received wisdom, Sita's divinity as well) is questionable.
As evidence for this oral tradition, he cites the fact that the story of Rama is not mentioned in the literature of the Vedic period (which ended some time around 650 BCE)(12), but is mentioned in parts of the Mahabharata believed to have been composed in the fourth century BCE.
Central to this argument is the evidence that the Balakanda and Uttarakanda (the first and last books of the poem) of Valmiki are later additions, for they have a different style of composition and a different unity of content.

 Dealing with Hindu Heretics
By the way, the Ramayana epic was divinely revealed to the sage Valmiki before the events in it took place; this is why Lord Rama's sons were able to recite the Ramayana in the Ramayana itself.
Lord Rama, Laxman, Sita and Hanuman (the Monkey-warrior God) are all worshipped by Hindus; however, regarding the language of these 'deities' at times, one would be hard-pressed to even remotely consider their nonsense as divine speech.
Consumed by an inconsolable grief, Rama divides the kingdom between his sons, and then, followed by all the inhabitants of Ayodhya, enters the waters of the Sarayu river near the city and yielding up his life, returns at last to heaven as the Lord Visnu.

Russia's fascination with 'Valmiki Ramayana' continues
Russia is perhaps the only European country where the Valmiki Ramayana, written by the Hindu sage Valmiki, has been translated into the local language several times in tens of thousands of copies.
So it is hardly surprising that more than a thousand people offered prayers and tributes to the Hindu god Ram in the first ever large-scale Ramnavami celebrations, at which Russian artistes and writers who took Ram's story to the people were felicitated.

 Rama
Valmiki went on to compose the twenty-four thousand verses that make up Ramayana, the incredible saga that is said to contain the essence of all Vedas and all sacred scriptures.
These words and the feeling that poured from Valmiki's heart were spoken spontaneously in the form of a musical verse.
At the sound of it, Brahma appeared before Valmiki and told him to sing the story of Rama in the rhythm of the verse he had just sung, saying, "As long as this world endures, as long as the stars shine in heaven, so long will this song spread among men.

 Valmiki Ramayana
Many Hindus prefer to pass a faithful rendering of what Valmiki, the Sage, passed on to them, in his course of words and events, without entering into the controversies of unwritten history.
Those in India believe that Rama lived in Satya Yug (Truth age), millennia BC and many are presently concerned with what Ramayana tells us, rather than when it was told.
Sage poet Valmiki authored it and as with any other classical poems written in ancient times, dating of Ramayana is still to be determined accurately by historians.
