Haredi Judaism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As with the nineteenth century Reform Judaism movement in Germany, the result was mutual recriminations, rejection, and harsh verbal attacks.
Reform, Conservative, and even Modern Orthodox Judaism were seen as potentially threatening to the very continuity of the community.
This latter group insisted that the appropriate response to the Enlightenment was to maintain strict adherence to traditional Jewish law and custom to prevent the disintegration of the community and ensure the survival of the Jewish people.

 Torah
Further, traditional Christianity holds that while the Torah's quotes from God should literally be understood as quotes from God Himself, the rest of the text is not a direct quote, but rather human words written by a prophet under divine inspiration.
Christianity also believes that the Torah is the word of God; however most Christians do not necessarilly hold that it was "dictated" to Moses all at once.
Thus the entire Torah is held to be a holy revelation, but not all of it is seen as a quote.

Jewish FAQs on Torah & Judaism
The only relevant distinction is between those who are passionate about their Judaism, who love the study of Torah and the practice of Mitzvot (or who want to do so), and those who are less passionate, informed and involved.
Nor is Karaism, or the religion of the Essenes, the Bethoesim or the Kutim, despite the fact that all these people were Jewish and originally formulated their religion based on Judaism.
It is for good reason, then, that the unchangeability of the Torah is one of the 13 Principles of Faith.

Confirmation originally took place at the end of the eighth year of Religious School, but it has since been moved to the end of the ninth or tenth year (and occasionally later).
While boys and girls are considered to be spiritual adults by age 13, they are better prepared at age 16 or 17 to make the kind of emotional and intellectual commitment to Judaism that Confirmation implies.
The ceremony of Confirmation is almost universally practiced in Reform [and] Reconstructionist synagogues, and [in some] Conservative synagogues.

Much like the actor, who cannot fulfill his role in the performance devoid of passion, it is the passion of the heart, which forms the core of what Judaism is meant to be.
And one wonders whether it was this type of performance, devoid of any feeling or desire that led so many Jews to leave the beauty of Mitzvoth behind, in search of disciplines that would bring back the fire and joy they thirsted for.
That is the foundation on which the world can become holy, and allows each and every one of us, to bring G-d into this world.

 Sarid's Synagogue - Rabbi Berel Wein - 5761
The prophet Jeremiah states: "And those that grab and hold the Torah for themselves do not know Me." Too many in the 'religious' society are convinced that the Torah and the synagogue belong to them alone.
This callousness towards the rest of the Jewish people is a product of the defensive posture forced on the religious community by the attacks of the Left over the last two centuries.
Synagogues, halachically correct and spiritually non-partisan, are a key to realizing the dream of 'the end of days.'

Prior to this document, the perception that had prevailed within the Christian world over the centuries was that Jews had been rejected by God not only for their failure to recognize Jesus of Nazareth as the true messiah, but also for complicity in his execution.
More specifically, the nations of the world pledged themselves to achieve eight goals that together reflect a commitment to creating a global order that honors the infinite value of every person and the image of God in which, the Bible declares, we are each created.
Much more frequently, of course, similar words came from Christian commentators and with specific reference to the Christian character of the Scriptures....

The bar mitzvah boy could at best display ability to read from the Torah and give a discourse; the confirmand could show he knew the religious principles of his faith.
Reformers, scrutinizing the rite of bar mitzvah, expressed a preference for a confirmation ceremony at which the 13-year-old would answer rehearsed questions about the tenets of Jewish faith.
But bar mitzvah has enjoyed a rebirth of popularity and significance among the descendants of those liberal Jews who once dispensed with it.
