Tridentine Mass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In addition to "Tridentine Mass," traditional Catholics use the terms "ancient Mass," "traditional Mass," etc., because Pope Pius V's revision of the Roman Missal had as one of its declared aims restoration of the Missal "to the original form and rite of the holy Fathers",[5] an aim not in fact achieved (see Pre-Tridentine Mass.
Another peculiarity was that, while in all the other ancient rites, the liturgy was chanted throughout, in the Tridentine form of the Roman rite the priest normally merely spoke the words of the Mass, to a large extent silently.
The present Roman Missal is, doubtless, the text that the Roman rite will use for many years to come, while the Holy See has made provision also for those attached to the earlier form of the Roman rite.

It is applied in particular to the Council of Trent, one of the ecumenical councils recognized by the Roman Catholic Church, held in that city in the 16th century, and to the teachings, dogmas and legislation which arose from it.
Some members of the traditional Catholic movement subscribe to sedevacantism, and a very small subset of these have elected their own popes (termed by most mainstream Catholics antipopes).
Many such traditionalist Catholics worship at Masses offered by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter and others in communion with Rome.

Tridentine (Latin) Mass, St. Josaphat Church, Detroit, MI
The Tridentine Rite is that form of Mass which was used almost everywhere in the Roman Catholic Church before the Second Vatican Council in the 1960’s.
Most Catholics were very satisfied with this situation, especially since the new rite did allow for the continuation of the use of the Latin language if desired and even the use of the old altar where the priest faced the tabernacle instead of the people and the use of the Communion rail.
And so on Sunday, October 3rd, 2004 the first Tridentine Mass will be said in St. Josaphat Church, at 9:30 in the morning.

The Tridentine Mass was the Liturgy which Catholics in the Roman or Western Rite of the Church celebrated starting from the Council of Trent (4 centuries or so ago) and it didn't change until the 1960's.
These Masses were and are offered in Arabic, Aramaic, Greek, or what ever the local language is. Their Liturgies predate the Tridentine Mass, and they were and are just as valid as any Mass ever offered in the Western Church.
The point I’m trying to make is that even before the reform of the Liturgy in the 1960’s, the Catholic Church had many liturgies, all of them valid, all of them equal.
