U.S. Horrors Vampires [ Dark Spiral Home ] Nephandi - Mage: The Ascension Mage: The Ascension is a role-playing game from the World of Darkness line by White Wolf Game Studio.
The metaplot of the game involves a four-way war between the science-based Technocracy (Order), the insane Marauders (Chaos), the cosmically evil Nephandi (Entropy) and the nine magical Traditions...

 Paths of Ascension
Or Club Verbena, Club Dreamspeaker, Club Chorus, etc. There's a whole cadre of so-called "Ascension Warriors" called the Council of Seven, wherein the Grand Order of Hermes has gathered mages of different styles into seven traditions, and united them to fight the Technocracy, to make the world a safer place for magick.
Some people, mostly the pattern-types, feel the need to divide the Awakened Ones into categories, "Traditions" and such, when such divisions in practical reality don't exist.
I've been around this globe one or two times, and I've met a good number of mages; except for the wizards of the Grand Hermetic Houses and the church-mages of the Celestial Chorus, most of'em don't really adhere to any sort of organized hierarchy.

Sons of Ether - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sons of Ether are one of nine Traditions of mages in the game Mage: The Ascension.
The Sons of Ether draw on the spark of genius within themselves to create devices which function beyond the normal laws of physics, aerodynamics, chemistry, and neuropsychology.
The Sons of Ether are particularly trying, as their defection from the Technocracy was viewed very differently by each side.

technocracy: Definition and Much More From Answers.com
In Mage: The Ascension, the Technocratic Union (or Technocracy) is a world-wide conspiracy that employs a scientific paradigm to pursue an agenda opposed to superstition and faith-based belief systems and dedicated to the victory of science as the primary world belief system.
These two groups now belong to the Traditions and are reviled by the Technocracy as Reality Deviants for having embraced technomancy.
As a scientific meritocracy, however, the Technocracy's highest ranks are occupied entirely by mages.

Technocracy HERO - HERO GAMES Discussion Boards
They've technically won the Ascension War against the Traditions (Tradition mages have mostly fled to distant Horizon realms...the weaker mages all hiding on earth) and they've turned their sites on the next big threat...the Vampires.
All the mages were "orphans" (i.e., self-taught with no connection to any sort of real magical tradition), and their only knowledge of the Technocracy came from an NPC mage who looked and sounded suspiciously like Trinity from THE MATRIX.
With the establishment of the Technocracy and their attempt to formalize and regularize the workings of the world, they have a chance--at last--to slam the door shut on the last of the monsters...and bolt it forever.

The Horizon War Books by Robert Weinberg
The mages of both the Nine Traditions and the Technocracy are under attack by a mysterious willworker who calls himself Heylel Teomin, the Ascension Warrior.
Thus, the Horizon War, a World of Darkness trilogy involving mages and vampires was born.
No one was sure what direction the game would take under a new game developer, so Bob was asked to revise his trilogy and redo it as a series of novels featuring werewolves and mages from the World of Darkness.

The section on the Cultists of Ecstacy was possibly the best, giving desperately needed insights into the most stereotyped tradition.
This book comprises three earlier books, the Verbena, Dreamspeaker, and Cult of Ecstacy Tradition books.
The Cult of Ecstasy tradition book was the best in the compilation.
