Tishrei - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tishrei or Tishri (תִּשְׁרִי, תִּשְׁרֵי, Standard Hebrew Tišri, Tišre, Tiberian Hebrew Tišrî, Tišrê: from Akkadian tašrītu "Beginning", from šurrû "To begin") is the first month of the ecclesiastical year and the seventh month of the civil year on the Hebrew calendar.

 Jewish Holidays
(Tishri 23 in the Diaspora, Tishri 22 in Israel) - The holiday of 'Rejoicing in the Torah' on which the year-long cycle of Torah (the Pentateuch) reading is completed and re-started.
(Tishri 1) - The Jewish New Year, observed for two days in Israel as well as the Diaspora, marks the commencement of the Ten Days of Penitence which reach their climax on Yom Kippur.
(Tishri 21) - The seventh day of Sukkot, a half holiday, is marked by the recitation of many 'hosha-na' ("help us, we pray") prayers recited by worshippers carrying bundles of twigs from willow trees (which usually grow along river banks) as they make seven circuits of the synagogue.

 THE FEAST OF TISHRI
Beginning on the 15th day of the month of Tishri, the feast is celebrated for eight days by Orthodox and Conservative Jews outside of Israel, and for seven days by Reform Jews and by Jews in Israel.
The consecration of the Temple must also be observed at the Feast of Tishri because it teaches the equality and unity of all members of the Rite.
In the year 3001 Anno Lucis, six months after its completion, in the month of Tishri, the seventh month of the Jewish sacred year, the Temple was dedicated with reverential ceremonies to the one Living and True God.

 Rosh Hashana
Notice that this holiday, which focuses on sin and repentance, is followed by the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur on the 10th of Tishri, and then Succos or the Feast of Booths on the 15th of the month, which focuses on God's providential care of his people.
The first day of Tishri is the Jewish New Year or Rosh Hashana which means "head of the year." If you read Exodus 12:2, you will discover that the Torah teaches that the month of Nisan when Passover is celebrated, is to be the first month.
Probably because the letters of the words "the first of Tishri" in Hebrew can be rearranged to form the words "in the beginning".

Some reactionary ministers within the Churches of God have sought to justify the postponements under the Hillel Calendar by resort to misconstruction of Scripture.
Thus nothing is pivotal to this day except the day sequence for Tishri as it determines Atonement and the Feast.

Sometime a defective or complete year is used not to start the following year on the molad Tishri, but rather to start that following year one or two days beyond the molad Tishri for religious reasons.
Note that the origin for the above calculations was chosen so that the Molad of Tishri in the year 1 occured on a Monday.
That seems strange if you believe that creation started on that date, because it would mean that the seventh day (the day of rest) was on a Sunday.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Christian Calendar
The Day of Atonement fell on 10 Tishri and the Feast of Tabernacles extended from the 14th to the 21st, with a sort of octave day on the 22nd, but these had no direct bearing on the calendar of the Christian Church.
That of Pentecost, or, "of the weeks", 50 days after the Pasch, is of importance because it also found a place in the Christian Dispensation.
In the Jewish system, besides the weekly sabbath, rest from work was enjoined on seven other days of the year, to wit: the first and last day of the Azymes, the feast of Pentecost, the Neomenia of the Seventh month, the day of Propitiation, the first day of Tabernacles, and 22 Tishri which immediately followed.
