Another temple at Thyatira was dedicated to Sambethe, and at this shrine was a prophetess, by some supposed to represent the Jezebel of Rev_2:20, who uttered the sayings which this deity would impart to the worshippers.
If the sibyl Sambatha was in reality a Jewess, lending her aid to the amalgamation of different religions, and not discountenanced by the authorities of the Judeo-Christian Church at Thyatira, both the censure and its qualification become easy of explanation.
It was taught by many of the early church that no Christian might belong to one of the guilds, and thus the greatest opposition to Christianity was presented.

In the church of Thyatira, which was the direct recipient of this letter, we see that there were many things about the church in which to commend, however there were also errors that were worse than existed in the previous churches.
In this letter to the church at Thyatira, we have to see first of all that what Christ reveals about Himself, ‘The Son of God, has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze,’ is primarily something which refers to the fiery wrath of His impending judgment.
The reference here in the epistle to the church in Thyatira is most likely a reference to spiritual fornication that had come about “as a result of the false teaching” that had come from this woman named Jezebel.

Thus the true 'Son of God', Jesus, would have been an affront to the state religion and, more specifically, the religion of Thyatira which worshipped Apollo, the son of god, and the emperor, the incarnate son of god.

The real problem, or root cause, of the spiritual adultery in Thyatira was not so much Jezebel as the weak-willed believers who allowed themselves to be led into sin by her and the weak-willed leadership who allowed themselves to be dominated by her.
