 Kuchipudi Dance
The tradition of Kuchipudi dance was passed down through generations of Brahmin families in Kuchipudi village and interacted with the temple dance traditions as well as the other drama traditions of South India.
Prior to this time, even as early as the 8th century, prototypes of the Kuchipudi dance drama centering on the life of Siva and other Hindu gods had been performed and was known as nattuva mela.
It is no wonder that Kuchipudi dance enjoys great popularity and is recognized as one of the foremost classical dance styles of India.

Bharatnatyam - Depicting Radha waiting for Lord Krishna
Originally, the Bharatnatyam dance was an exclusive forte of the temple dancers or Devadasis, whose sole purpose in life was to serve the temple deity.
Bharatnatyam is believed to be the oldest of all forms of classical dances in India, given the fact that it draws the most heavily from the ancient Indian texts of dance.
These young Devadasis were then taught the arts of music and dance, sacred and classical literature in Sanskrit, Tamil and Telegu and certain religious duties in the temple.

 Gotipua Dancers - I
The boys dressed as girls began to dance in the temple precincts during festivals.
Panigrahi remarks that "the Gotipua dance appears to have originated in the reign of Prataparudradeva (A.D. 1497-1540) and gained popularity in the subsequent muslim period on account of the rigidity of the purdha system which led to the seclusion of women and made their presence scarce on the festive occasions.
For the first time, the temple dance came out of its home and began to be performed by these Gotipuas in public.

 Article: Bharata Natyam
The reconstruction of the sadir dance was undertaken by Westernized and Sanskritized Brahmins.
Its dance journey is both religious sacrament and divine conduit, resulting in a realization of the oneness of self and the cosmos.
Dedicated to God through temple ceremonies, the devadasis became constituents of the temple as brides and devotional servants to the deity.

We wake up at 5 am, being told that the men and women attending this camp (this year, the focus is on training dance teachers) will start their final day of the three-day workshop, with yoga.
And as is the tradition, the gurus and sishyas at the camp, had joined in the procession and even danced away into the night.
Meanwhile, the kalyana utsavam ceremony begins inside the temple where the gorgeous alankaram for lord Pandurangan, is changed every day and every ritual is rich in song, recitation and act.

Compared to the long duration of the Indian dance tradition, these denominations are relatively recent although they pretend defining the “standard dances of India”.
That style of dance derives itself from the three previous traditions 3, 4 and 5.

Still I felt a strong value to being taught raunch on the temple floor; the spirit of Ikkyu and the fool was reminding me that this was just a building and on the ceiling might be the four noble truths, but you'd still find the red thread on the floor of the temple.
The first evident claim had been staked here by Buddhists; they had a temple and graveyard, off to the side of the DJ tent painted with a large florescent eye.
At once I was feeling overwhelmed by my thesis - seeing the rebirth of Japanese culture all around me. It was centered on one delusion, according to jacky, this was a Shinto temple.

ODISSI DANCE, Classical East Indian Dance, Classes and Performances with Jyoti Rout
Odissi is an ancient, breathtakingly beautiful form of sacred dance, which was originally developed in the temple of Jagannath in Orissa, East India, as a form of worship and meditation.
A class of tender aged dancers known as Gotipuas began performing Odissi for the masses to convey the spiritual stories, while the Maharis (temple dancers) continued the tradition within the temples.
It was first encountered outside the temple in the early part of the sixteenth century.

The temple sculptures portray not only gods and goddesses, but also everyday life -- including religious rituals, household duties and animals both real and mythical.
Impressive visual evidence of this civilization may still be found, however, in the exquisitely-sculpted Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples built over a span of centuries starting in the third century B.C. Later Muslim and Hindu princes added magnificent forts, palaces, mosques or mausoleums.
The liveliest components of these sculptures are often the figures of celestial musicians and dancers, which preserved India's classical dance and music in stone for centuries.
