 Diamond Sutra Introduction
Diamond Sutra is one of the most important sutras in Buddhism.
The Sutra is a record of a dialogue between the Buddha and one of the Ten Great Disciples, Subhuti, in front of 1250 Buddha's followers.
Diamond Sutra is an important teaching to break up the ignorance of the attachments of the self and of the Dharma.

The Lotus Sutra and Zen Hermeneutics
For a Zen follower, be it the Lankāvatara Sutra, the Diamond Sutra, or any other sutra—insofar as the scripture describes the existential Zen-experience of the practitioner him or herself—any scripture will do.
Dogen’s famous interpretation of the Nirvana Sutra, that “All is sentient being, all beings are buddha nature” (“Busshō,” Shōbōgenzō), for instance, was fundamentally in accordance with the message of the universal salvation proclaimed in the Lotus Sutra.
Dogen’s interpretation of the Lotus Sutra cannot be separated from his high regards for the fundamental importance of scriptures, which he considered the vehicle of the transmission of Buddhas’ teachings, and as such scriptures constituted one’s very self.

 The Sutra
More specifically, it is the Sutra, the words of the Buddha that live on and teach those that listen with faith.
Therefore the Sutra is literally the very living word of the Buddha.
In practicing the Sutra (reading, reciting, worshipping, spreading the word, etc) one brings it to life and attains its wisdom and virtues (its Body of Reward, S. Sambhogakaya) and is spiritually transformed into the Buddha in this world teaching the Dharma to enlighten others (the Body of Manifestation and Response, S. Nirmanakaya).

The Lotus Sutra describes the existence of an innate and universal truth, known as the Buddha nature, inherent in all life.
The Lotus Sutra is unique among the teachings of Shakyamuni in that it affirms that the attainment of enlightenment is a possibility open to all people without distinction of race, gender, social standing, or education.

 Introduction to Lotus Sutra
The Sutra is the principal text of Tien Tai School in Chinese Buddhism, and the Nichiren School in Japanese Buddhism.
There are mainly seven parables in the Sutra, such as the three carts and the burning house, the wealthy men and his poor son, the three kinds of medicinal herbs and two kinds of trees, the phantom city and the treasure land, etc.
It is divided into 28 chapters, of which Chapter 16, The Thus Come One's Life Span is especially important for its eulogy of Shakyamuni as the embodiment of eternal life and as having attained enlightenment in the inconceivably remote past.

The Wonderful Law of the Lotus Sutra
What is striking to many about the Lotus Sutra is the radical emphasis on devotion and faith, noting that the path to buddhahood is not restricted to those who practiced monastic auterities but to those who worship the buddha (or buddhas) in a number of ways.
It is clear especially in the 14th chapter that the main thrust of the Lotus Sutra is for the elite of highly-attained bodhisattvas in the closing Dharma-age (Mappo), to clarify their practice and to demonstrate the unity of the Buddha Dharma behind the facade of seemingly infinite diversity of 'practices' (upaya).
This is the most basic assumption of Pure Land Buddhism, the greatest example of a Buddha's transferred merit being that of Amida Buddha, faith in whom assures birth in the Pure Land (Sukhavati) and enlightenment or Nirvana.

The Mahayana Mahaparinirvana Sutra ("Great, Complete Nirvana Mahayana Scripture" - commonly known as the Nirvana Sutra, for short) is one of the most profound, inspiring and important of all the Buddha's Mahayana sutras.
Tradition and the sutra itself have it that this scripture represents the final set of teachings delivered by the Buddha on the last day and night of his life upon earth.

This text is called a collection of `sUtra'-s, pithy statements that discourse upon some specific aspect of the field -- and is the most important work relating to that doctrine, as it codifies the entire spectrum of thought encompassed by that doctrine, and serves as a point of reference for all matters of philosophical import.
There is a tradition that says that the brahma-sUtra must be written with an OM at the beginning and end of each sUtra.

 The Heart Sutra
The Heart Sutra, in its Japanese form (the Hannya Shingyo), is often chanted by Zen groups before and/or after a meditation sitting.
Up to this point, the Sutra has been through a number of lists and concepts taken from the heart of traditional Buddhist teaching, and either denied their existence, or equated them to emptiness.
The phrase "etc until" is used in the Heart Sutra because the list is assumed to be familiar to the reader (this point is easily missed by Western Buddhists - later writings such as the Prajnaparamita and Zen are intended to build on the foundations of earlier texts, not replace them).
