Strong atheism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Strong atheists who believe that the existence of a certain deity is impossible commonly claim that the combination of attributes which the Christian God is purported to have (for example, omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence, transcendence, omnibenevolence, etc.) is logically contradictory, and therefore, the existence of the Christian God is a priori impossible.
Some people who classify themselves as strong atheists base their views on this belief, which may in turn be based on a variety of things, such as the lack of a consistent, meaningful definition for what a "god" is or the unfalsifiability of many theistic beliefs.
Another argument for strong atheism as opposed to weak atheism is that refusing to believe in the nonexistence of gods while believing in the nonexistence of ghosts, Santa Claus or the Invisible Pink Unicorn is inconsistent.

 Atheism - Free Encyclopedia
Atheism is not synonymous with irreligion; the idea of an eternal non-created universe is an important concept held by some members of religions and philosophies such as Buddhism and Taoism.
The term atheism\ is formed of the Greek prefix a- (meaning "without" or "not") and the Greek-derived theism, meaning a belief in a god or gods.
Some distinguish between a narrow, strict category "strong atheism" (the explicit rejection of the existence of gods) and "weak atheism" (a lack of belief in gods but no explicit rejection).

 Atheism - Psychology Central
Atheism, in its broadest sense, is an absence of belief in the existence of gods.
Strong atheism may be based on arguments that the concept of a deity is self-contradictory and therefore impossible (positive ignosticism), or that one or more of the properties attributed to a deity are incompatible with what we observe in the world.
Agnostic atheism is typically contrasted with agnostic theism, the belief that deities exist even though it is impossible to know that deities exist, and with gnostic atheism, the belief that there is enough information to determine that deities do not exist.

In fact, atheism is commonly defined as disbelief in the existence of gods.
Weak-atheism is disbelief in gods, but strong-atheism adds something more : it is also a belief that gods do not exist.

 Atheism
Strong atheists will point out, for example, that they don't necessarily assert that there are no gods (how does one define "god," after all?), but that the particulars of any entity known as God and worshipped by any human religion can be disproven, or at least shown to be highly illogical.
Some people (disparagingly) call atheism a "religion," as much a matter of faith as believing in a deity.
A case can be made for calling strong atheism a form of faith, since strong atheists, in effect, have "faith" (meaning they accept something as true without proof) that there is no God.

There is "strong" atheism (also known as "positive" or "explicit" atheism), which is a positive belief that there is no God.
There is also "weak" atheism (also known as "negative" or "implicit" atheism), which is defined as simply a "lack of belief" in God.
Unlike the strong atheist, the strong agnostic would not declare adamantly, "There is no God!" but would claim that we cannot know either way whether any kind of God or gods exist.

 Introduction To Activistic Atheism
The language we urge is that atheism itself is the lack of a god belief, but that many atheists go much further than this, just as theism is the belief in one or more gods, though some theists hold their belief vaguely or indifferently while others adamantly insist that a specific god exists.
Ayer's position presupposes that atheism is the belief that no gods exist (the strong definition for the word atheism).
To state that atheism is, at minimum, the simple lack of a god belief is called the weak definition for the word atheism (sometimes called negative atheism).

Some people think that atheism is a positive belief that god does not exist.
Also this argument can be reversed by saying that to claim that there is a god would require knowledge that there is nothing in the universe which prohibits the existence of gods, which would be impossible.
First of all, atheism in the broad sense is only disbelief, not belief.

If we assume that they are right, that "atheism" means "the assertion that God does not exist," then the prefix "a-" alters the root to mean "a strong assertion that (the root) does not exist"!
When I do, I will be sure to reference the source of the idea, as much of this will surely be new to my presentation.
I am a "weak" atheist in the technical sense, when pushed for a well-thought-out statement of my views on the matter, but I am about as "strong" as they come in the pragmatic sense of how I live my life and what is usually taking place within my mind!
