Hebrew alphabet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hebrew alphabet is a set of 22 letters used for writing the Hebrew language.
According to traditional Jewish thought, the Hebrew writing system contained all the current letters at the time of Moses, although Ezra is known for his contribution to the square form.
The Hebrew alphabet was retained as the alphabet used for writing down the Hebrew language during its rebirth in the end of the 19th century, despite several unsuccessful attempts to replace it with the Latin alphabet.

He is an important figure in the Hebrew Bible, noted for his faith in God when the Hebrew nation refuses to enter the "promised land" of Canaan.
When the Hebrews came to the outskirts of Canaan, the land they believed had been promised them by God, after having fled slavery in Egypt, Moses (the Hebrew leader) sent twelve scouts (or spies, meraglim in Hebrew)) into Canaan to report on what was there.
It is said that the only adult Hebrews allowed to survive these forty years and enter Canaan were Joshua and Caleb, as a reward for their faith in God.

 Expanding Your Library
An analytical lexicon identifies the form of each word of the original language of either the Old Testament (Hebrew) or the New Testament (Greek) and shows the lexical form under which a word can be found in a standard Hebrew or Greek lexicon.
If you want to know more about using Bible reference books based on Greek and Hebrew, an introductory book such as Do-It-Yourself Hebrew and Greek is helpful.
The main benefit of a very basic knowledge of Greek and Hebrew is that it widens the range of Bible reference books you can profitably use.

Divine Authorship? Computer Reveals Startling Word Patterns
Among the oft-derided Christian literalists, it is said that the Bible is the wholly inerrant Word of God, and that Holy Spirit guided the mind and hand of its human authors.
Orthodox Jews are even more extreme in their literalism: Among them, tradition holds not merely that every word of the Bible is inspired, but that every letter of the Torah (the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Hebrew Bible) was dictated directly by God to Moses in a precise and unerring sequence.
With respect to the other sacred texts, the phenomenon would not be expected because even the best manuscripts of the text vary; there is no letter-for-letter sacred text as there is for the Torah.

The Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS) is the standard Hebrew Old Testament used by translators and Bible students today.
It is a conservative, literal translation from the best manuscripts, with a good balance between reverence and eeadability in its style.
Not to be confused with the Revised Standard Version or the Revised English Bible.

Nevertheless, they proved to be word for word identical with our standard Hebrew Bible in more than 95 percent of the text [7].
Even those Dead Sea fragments of Deuteronomy and Samuel which point to a different manuscript family from that which underlies our received Hebrew text do not indicate any differences in doctrine or teaching.
These books were a thousand year older than the oldest dated manuscripts previously known.
