 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Saint Mark
In the preface to his Gospel in manuscripts of the Vulgate, Mark is represented as having been a Jewish priest: "Mark the Evangelist, who exercised the priestly office in Israel, a Levite by race".
The Evangelist's intention of visiting Asia Minor was probably carried out, for St. Paul, writing shortly before his death to Timothy at Ephesus, bids him pick up Mark and bring him with him to Rome, adding "for he is profitable to me for the ministry" (2 Timothy 4:11).
Later tradition, however, makes Mark one of the seventy-two disciples, and St. Epiphanius ("Hær", li, 6) says he was one of those who withdrew from Christ (John 6:67).

 SBC - The Beloved Disciple
The three Gospels that preceded John's, those of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, are called the synoptic Gospels, because they present a general view of Our Lord's life and are concerned for the most part with the same events.
John tells many things not included in the synoptic Gospels, particularly those of the time preceding the news of the imprisonment of John the Baptist, and many important events of Our Lord's life he omits, because he supposes them known from the synoptics.
Besides his Apocalypse and Gospel, John wrote three Epistles, one to the Christians at large, one to the lady Elect and her children, and one to Gaius.

History of the Copts of Egypt
We are proud that our Coptic church is an Apostolic Church, as it was established by St. Mark one of the Seventy Apostles of Jesus Christ and an Evangelist who wrote the oldest testament of the Four Bibles.
From that point St. Mark started talking to Anianus about the "one God" that we worship, Anianus then took St. Mark to his house where he and his family became Christians and were baptized.
Although Christianity was already known to few in Egypt, St. Mark was the one who established its Church; similarly St. Paul was the one who established the Church of Rome although some people in Rome were already Christian.

 St. Luke the Evangelist
The praises of Luke as a writer may seem excessive, particularly since he is one of many authors represented in the New Testament, chief among whom are St. Matthew (the man), St. Mark (the lion), and St. John (the eagle).
Luke's contribution to the cause of Jesus Christ are beyond all measure, and his early influence on the Christian scene has enabled the Christian Church to rise to its ever increasing influence in human experience.
An appraisal of the contributions to Christianity by St. Luke cannot be measured by the number of words he wrote, the miles he traveled in missionary journeys, or the number of years he spent in exclusive dedication to the service of Jesus Christ.

Various explanations of the epithet have been suggested: that Mark, after he embraced Christianity, cut off his thumb to unfit himself for the Jewish priesthood; that his fingers were naturally stumpy; that some defect in his toes is alluded to; that the epithet is to be regarded as metaphorical, and means "deserted" (cf.
