 Sringeri - Vidyashankara Temple
Sringeri is one of the most celebrated pilgrimage centers in Karnataka, and is home to the Sarada Peetham established by the revered spiritual leader Aadi Sankaracharya.
Sankara's disciple Sureshwaracharya was the first head of the Sringeri Peetham.
Legend has it that the sage Rishyasringa attained salvation here.

The Chandrasekhara of Kanchi and The Chandrasekhara of Sringeri : Experiences with His Holiness Sri Chandrasekharendra ...
The mother-tongue of the Head of the Kanchi Math in Tamil Nadu is Kannada and the mother-tongue of the Head of the Sringeri Math of Karnataka was Telugu.
When he was immersed in the divine intoxication of Bakthi or the spiritual afflatus of Jnana, some called him mad.
He is none other than Chandrasekhara Bharati Svamigal of the Sringeri Sankara Math, who held the holy office of Sankaracharya for 42 years during the same period when Sri Chandrasekhara Indira-Sarasvathi was presiding over the Kanchi Sankara Math.

Real history of the Kanchi math (Re: Former President Inaugurates...) Celebrations
It is only a shakha (branch) of the Sringeri peetham." "Several years earlier, Sir C. Ramaswamy Iyer, who headed the central commission on Hindu religious and charitable endowments, had announced that `there is no such thing as the Kanchi Kamakoti peetham.'..................
In addition to denying the historical truth of its origin as a branch of the Sringeri math, the story propagated was that it was originally established by Adi Sankaracharya himself at Kanchipuram, with control over the recognized four maths.
The seal of this math is in Kannada language, and refers to it as a "Sarada math." Since Sarada is worshipped only at Sringeri, and the Goddess at Kanchipuram is Kamakshi, not Sarada, it is seen at once that the Kumbhakonam math did not originally come from Kanchipuram.

 Sankara
The famous holy shrine of Sri Sarada is an equal source of attraction to the devotees.
The most famous Sannyasin in the succession of Gurus of the Sringeri Mutt was, of course, Vidyaranya, the great commentator on the Vedas and the father of the dynasty of Vijayanagar.
Bharati also accompanied Sankara to Sringeri and there she is worshipped even today.

The Shankaracharya(s) of Jyotirmath - Vidyasankar Sundaresan - Plain text
Note that the last known Jyotirmath Sankaracharya in the 18th century is named as Ramakrishna Tirtha in some sources, and as Ramakrishna Asrama in others.
The appointment of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati in 1941 was made by a group of monks and pundits based in Varanasi (the Bharata Dharma Mahamandala, Kashi Vidvat Parishad, and the Akhila Bharatiya Dharmasangha), with the blessings of Swami Bharati Krishna Tirtha, the then Sankaracharya of Puri.
It is said that Brahmananda's guru, Krishnananda Saraswati, was associated with the Sringeri matha, but this may be due to nothing more than the traditional affiliation of the Saraswati orders with Sringeri.

 Anugraha Lahari
Sometime during the 40's I went to Sringeri to have the Darshan of Sri Chandrashekhara Bharati Mahaswamigal and Sri Abhinava Vidya Tirtha Mahaswamigal.
This was when Sri Mahasannidhanam chose to stay at Sringeri and when Sri Acharya went on vijaya yatra with Sri Chandramoulishwara.
I visited Sringeri with a plan that I should just inform Acharya about the function and seek His blessings but I would not invite Him to visit Shimoga to bless the function.

Swami Bharati Tirtha the Shankaracharya of Sringeri: No Difference!
Last winter, while still in the early phases of research for this issue, we began to wonder how representatives of Hindu orthodoxy might account for some of the apparently misogynist sentiments expressed in many of the most revered scriptures of their tradition—a tradition in which, perhaps ironically, goddess worship occupies a central role.
Holding a position in Hindu religious society often compared to that of the pope in Catholicism, Tirtha is one of four current representatives of a long lineage of Shankaracharyas dating back to Adi Shankara, the eighth-century founder of Advaita Vedanta and India's most revered philosopher/sage.
If India is the birthplace and heart of the world's most powerful and influential mystical traditions, there are those who would say that it is equally unparalleled in its conservatism regarding gender issues.

It is more reasonable to identify the vikramAditya of the Sringeri record with one of these two cAlukyan kings, who ruled from Karnataka, rather than the northern gupta king, whose empire did not include southern India.
This is also accepted by the administrations of these institutions, and they do not hold to the 5th century BCE date with absolute certainty.

 Sri Vidyaranya of Sringeri
By the time the empire of Vijayanagar was firmly established, he had already adorned the Sringeri Sharada Peetham as its head.
It was to warn the people who had lost the sense of dignity and self-respect so that they might together build a mighty empire.

 Sringeri Gurus
Besides it stands to reason that the very name ‘Sringeri’ is a natural corruption of Sringapura founded in memory of Sringin, the ‘Malayalendra Deva’ given as the 12th Pontiff of the Sringeri Mutt, as stated in the list of Gurus of this Mutt, in ‘Gadyavali’.
A list of Guruparampara of the Sringeri Mutt is had in form of verses in the ‘Guruvamsa Kavya’ of Sringeri, publishe by Vanivilas Press, Srirangam,in 1966.
Besides the occasional worship of Sringin at Sringeri, reliable information points to the deity of Sringin or malayala Brahma Devaru, being worshipped every day in the morning and performing of Aradana to him every year with sixteen Brahmins, in the Kudali Sringeri Mutt.

The tamilnadu brahmins - that too only a sect of Smarta brahmanas are interested i propagating this lie it is being said by the followers of other 4 peeths.
Sankara is said to have four principal disciples who were all brahmins.

The revered Pontiff was impressed with the passion of Balasubramaniam and entrusted him the task of publishing the classics of Indian religion and philosophy.
But then the 34th Pontiff of Sringeri, Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati, became an equally soulful guide and soon Iyer completed the project.
The Sringeri Acharya acceded to his wish and gave his disciple the deeksha name of Sri Vijnananda Saraswati on June 3, 1947, as if to indicate that Iyer had risen from the mental plane (manomaya) to a supra-mental plane (vijnanamaya) of consciousness.
