 JewishEncyclopedia.com - SOLOMON
Disaffection in Edom and in Syria, and the utterances of the prophet Abijah to Solomon's overseer, Jeroboam, portended disintegration and dissolution.
Independently of this, Solomon is considered as one of the Prophets, in whom the Holy Ghost dwelt.
Solomon at once despatches the bird with a letter to Bilkis, bidding her embrace the faith or prepare to be conquered by his hosts.

King Solomon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Solomon's mastery of demons is a common element in later Jewish and Arab legends, and is often attributed to possession of a magic ring called the "Seal of Solomon".
Solomon's case is one of the few in the Bible where the name given by God does not stay with the character.
Because of this idol worship, a prophet visits Solomon and tells him that after his death his kingdom would be split in two (Israel and Judah) and that his son, Rehoboam, would suffer because of his sin.

 Solomon
However, Solomon was by no means the keeper of the religion of Israel; for he married many foreign wives, in addition to the daughter of the Pharaoh there were women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonines, and Hittities, when Solomon became old his wives turned his heart away from Jehovah, and he worshipped other gods.
According to Biblical accounts Solomon was anointed by Nathan, the prophet, and Zadok, the priest.
Solomon (Hebrew: Shelomoh, "peaceful") was also called Jedidiah, which means "beloved of Israel." He was the son of King David born of Bathsheba (2 Samuel 12:24; 1 Chronicles 3:5); he succeeded his father on the throne ruling approximately from 965 to 925 BCE.

 Solomon
Solomon began his reign as a deeply spiritual leader of his nation, one who desired nothing so much as wisdom adequately to serve God and the interests of his people (1 Ki 3:3–9).
Because of Solomon’s apostasy God had promised Jeroboam the greater part of the kingdom.
In response Solomon, supported by Zadok the priest, Benaiah, a high military officer, and David’s bodyguard, was immediately proclaimed king.

Solomon succeeded David, his father, as king of Israel.
He also warned Solomon that the divine favor and protection which had been bestowed upon Israel would continue only if their faith remained uncorrupted by other beliefs.

 Biblical people: Solomon (King)
Solomon, the son of King David and Bathsheba, was the third king of Israel.
Solomon was anointed king when his older brother, Adonijah, rashly tried to proclaim himself as ruler when their father, King David, became old.
Solomon took many foreign wives - 700 wives and 300 concubines, and they turned his heart away from the Lord, and they encouraged him to worship their gods.

 Solomon
Solomon was the son of King David and Bathsheba.
Solomon was not the oldest son of David, but David promised Bathsheba that Solomon would be the next king.
When it was done, Solomon dedicated the Temple in a public ceremony of prayers and sacrifices.

 King Solomon - Biography
This was fulfilled when Solomon's son King Rehoboam foolishly lost most of the kingdom.
As soon as Solomon died, the kingdom was split, Solomon's heir King Rehoboam retaining the smaller portion, and both kingdoms experienced much trouble that resulted from Solomon's sins.
Solomon, young and humble, spoke to God about the great responsibility involved in governing God's people, and he asked for wisdom sufficient for the job.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Solomon
Solomon was not the logical heir to the throne, but David conferred it upon him instead of his older brothers, and in doing so he committed no wrong according to Israelitish ideas.
The fact that Solomon's reign was passed in tranquillity, except for the attempts of Edom and Damascus to regain their independence, testifies to the care he displayed for the defence of the realm.
In the view of the Hebrew historian, Solomon was unsurpassed for sagacity and knowledge.

 Lesson: Solomon's Last Days
She was incredibly impressed, and acknowledged that God was the source of Solomon's glory.
But as his wives begged and he gave in, one by one he supported them in their worship until he was worshipping idols himself.

 Daily Bible Study - Solomon
Solomon is perhaps most famous for building the original Temple of God (see Temples) in Jerusalem to serve as a permanent place for the Levites to house The Ark Of The Covenant, containing The Ten Commandments, as well as all of their other duties.
Solomon was the first king of Israel born to a reigning king.
Solomon is believed to be derived from the Hebrew word for peace - appropriate, considering that Israel did indeed enjoy relatively high security and prosperity during his reign.
http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/solomon.htm

 King Solomon
Solomon's reign was marked by a constant tension between two conflicting orientations: faithfulness to the God of Israel and fulfillment of the Judaic religious precepts, against a propensity to yield to the pervasiveforeign influences that penetrated the kingdom as a result of the obligation simposed by its grandiose nature.
The major undertaking of Solomon's reign - besides his almost complete success in preserving the kingdom which he inherited fromhis father King David - was the building of the magnificent Temple to the God of Israel on the summit of Mount Moriah, a project which his father, for various reasons, had not undertaken.
She had " heard of Solomon sfame, through the name of the Lord, and she came to test him with hard questions. She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large retinue, with camels bearing spices, agreat quantity of gold, and precious stones" (1 Kings 10:1-2).

 ANE History: Solomon
Like Solomon's temple the shrine at Tell Tainat was rectangular, with three rooms, a portico with two columns in front, a main hall, and a cella or shrine with a raised platform.
The biblical evideence, substantiated by archeology, is that Solomon was the first king of Israel to employ horses and chariots in fighting.
As Glueck says, it was Solomon "who was the first one who placed the mining industry in the Wadi Arabah upon a really national scale." As a result, copper became the king's principlal export and his merchants' main stock in trade.

 solomon
As a prophet, it was Solomon's duty to remove such false beliefs from his followers.
They noticed Solomon surveying his army, and they were surprised at the number and variety of soldiers, which included lions, tigers, and birds.
And that which she used to worship besides Allah has prevented her from Islam, for she was of a disbelieving people.

 Solomon's Temple
And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he did not keep what the LORD commanded.
So Solomon held the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from the entrance of Hamath to the Brook of Egypt, before the LORD our God, seven days.
Another consequence of Solomon's compromise with idolatry and the resultant spiritual decline was that God raised up an adversary against him, Hadad the Edomite (1 Kings 11:14ff).

 Solomon Cutner
She was a Clara Schumann pupil who had founded a new school and saw Solomon both a the boy to make the school's name and a source of income.
Now, Solomon actually seems to take a slower tempo than any of these (some 20 minutes to traverse the whole thing), but the logic and inevitability of the piece struck me in a way that it never had before.
According to Bryan Crimp's biography, the evidence seems clear cut: Solomon was most definitely exploited by his teacher, Mathilde Verne as a youth.

 Solomon Mahlangu
The ANC and its military wing, Umkhonto we Sizwe, has sworn that Solomon Mahlangu shall be avenged and those who have taken his young life will one day have to answer for the innumerable crimes and irreparable damage they have caused.
Since then he has spent more than a year in a death cell at Pretoria Central Prison; he was not allowed visits other than from his family and a minister of religion appointed by the state; he was not allowed reading material from outside but was supplied with novels and a bible by the prison.
The execution of Solomon Mahlangu poses a new and urgent challenge to the fighting people of South Africa and international public opinion as a whole.

The biblical account of Solomon derives from the “Succession Narrative” in Second Samuel and First and Second Kings; Temple archives; and various folk-tales, but what the Bible says about the glory of his reign is impossible to confirm from the archaeological record.

And thanks to Charlaine Solomon's book, perhaps this summer my quest will be fulfilled.
Without the aid of a live foreign language translator, especially one knowledgeable in the ways of food, these reference books are essential to dedicated and adventuresome foodies like me. I've found that Charmaine Solomon's Encyclopedia of Asian Food is almost like having a tour guide and translator right by my side.
But what a book it is! Ingredients aren't just listed and described, they're discussed with attention to region, techniques, explanations of how to use them, names in various languages, and in the cases of fruits and vegetables, many include illustrations (though I would love to see even more).
