 Religious Movements Homepage: Sikhism
Sikhs do not participate in any meaningless rituals, and do not worship any images, for they believe it "brings God down to the level of an object" and also diverts attention from God to the object itself.
Sikhs believe that humans relate to God through meditation.
Sikhs also believe that their faith is not the only way to God, a belief that is in sharp variance with Muslim teachings.

A Sikh is a person who believes in One God and the teachings of the Ten Gurus, enshrined in Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy book.
Shortly before passing away Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji ordered that Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh Holy Scripture would be the ultimate spiritual authority for the Sikhs and temporal authority would vest in the Khalsa Panth – The Sikh Nation.
The final Sikh Guru in human form was Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji who in 1708 made Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji the last, perpetual living guru of the Sikhs.

 Sikhs Five Ks
The hair is a symbol of faith, and keeping long hair confirms a Sikh's belief in the acceptance of God's Will, and teaches him Humility and Acceptance.
The Karra is the Guru's own symbolic ring to all his Sikhs signifying their unbreakable link or bond with the Guru as well as among themselves, belonging to the brotherhood of Khalsa.
A Sikh should treat his hair as a gift from God himself.

 CHAPTER FOUR
This family includes Khalsa Sikhs who shave their heads and non-Khalsa Sikhs who do not; vegetarian and non-vegetarian Sikhs; Sikhs who utilize the name Singh and Kaur and those who do not; and Sikhs who only recognize the ten past gurus and others who follow a living guru.
Perhaps a lesser-known Sikh lineage is the Udasis Sikhs, ascetics with Nath ideas who claim descent from Nanak’s eldest son, Sri Chand.
Distinctively (and perhaps in contradistinction with other major world religions), Khalsa Sikhs may recognize non-Khalsa Sikhs as "slow adapters" (sahaj-dhari), but not necessarily as deviant aberrations.

five Ks Gurmat teaches that the human being is halfway.
They had uncut hair (Kesh), a tradition which was carried down by their holy people whether Druids in Europe, Taoists in China, Rishis in India, or religious persons like Samson in the Middle East.
The five Ks are symbols of this transformation from half-human to more complete humanity.

I, however, do not like his new book, “ Sikhs of the Khalsa.” He has listed Rahits by many insignificant people.
JST: In your earlier works, you said that Sikhism is a blend of Hinduism and Sufism, and then later when Hew McLeod’s works started appearing, you wrote in “Encyclopedia Britannica” that it is a tradition developed within Hinduism or an extension of the Bhakti movement.
It not only gives the addresses and accounts of all Sikhs settled there, but also the year of their migration to the region and places of their origin in India or abroad.

Gurdwara Tapoban Sahib - Guru Ka Langar
And widow marriages, reprobated by Hindus and now consequently by the Sikhs of the Punjab are habitually solemnised with the clearest conscience among the Sikhs of Naderh...At Patna, as at Naderh, the Sikhs pay the strictest attention to the Injunctions of Guru Gobind.
The literal meaning of the word Sikh is a 'disciple.' A Sikh is one who is a disciple of the Satguru.
Clearly, therefore, being a non-Amritdhari means that one, has not yet declared his total allegiance and obedience to Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji I Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji I Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as his Guru.

This is borne out by the commands of the Guru recorded in his Hukamnamas or letters, in the Rule of Sikh conduct, the Rahit-namas, and in other books on the religion and history of the Sikhs compiled and written by contemporary and later writers from the beginning of the eighteenth century to the present day.
The Kes, Kesha, or hair, is an indispensable main essential of the Sikh faith as enunciated by the Tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh at the time of the institution of the Sikh Guru Gobind Singh at the time of the institution of the Sikh baptismal ceremony in 1699.
Living among the Hindu and Muslim populations, the Sikhs generally act as neutrals and play the part of reconciling friends when the two happen to all out on religious and other questions We have a living pexample of this.

 Strict Ritualism Regarding 5 Ks
We will always have our Shabd Guru, the Siri Guru Granth Sahib intact, as it is. But now we have English translations of Guru's words!
Also, remember that at the time of the original Amrit ceremony, the people had to be constantly ready to mount their horses and engage in battles!
If you look up in "Victory and Virtue" Ceremonies and Conduct of Sikh Dharma (on the Sikhnet Website) you will find Instruction to New Amritdhari Sikhs on page 74 which simply says to "Keep the Five Kakar's" Certain things in our noble path will never change, and should never change.
