Read, Understand and live your life by the Quran
On the Day of Resurrection, some of his nafl deeds will be taken to make up the shortcomings in his obligatory deeds, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The first thing for which people will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be their salah (prayer).
Whoever fasts these six days will have recorded for him a reward as if he had fasted a whole year, as was reported in a sahih hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
Abu Ayyob (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days of Shawwal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime." (Narrated by Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah).

English Sabla - After Eid, do you fast the 6 days of SHAWWAL?
I understood that it is permissible to start on the 2nd day and continue till the 7th day of Shawwal, if we want to do it without break.
Amo, if you want to do this particular fast, you should first do it any time during that month, and then later on pay your missed days of Ramadhan, which can be done any time during the year.
The 6 days have to be completed before the end of that month.

Shawwal: What to Do on Eid Night, Eid Day, and During the Month
The second meritorious aspect of Shawwal is that it has been chosen by Allah Almighty for the celebration of "Eid-ul-fitr", one of the only two annual festivals recognized by the Shari'ah.
This happy day is designed by the Shari'ah as a sign of gratefulness by the Muslims on the accomplishment of Ramadan, and as an immediate reward by Allah for those who spent the month of Ramadan in fasting and performing other forms of 'ibadah.
For example, the Tawaf-ul-qudum, followed by the Sai' of Hajj cannot be performed before Shawwal, while it can be performed any day after the beginning of Shawwal.

In other words, the correct beginning for Shawwal 1420 AH (according to the actual sighting of the crescent), should be on 08 January for countries within the above parabola, while other countries should start Al-Eid on 09 January.
Suddenly a man started to shout "Maa sha Allah" on the top of his voice, insisting that it is the crescent for Shawwal that he is seeing.
I've noted this to the people around me and they all saw the crescent.

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Sufyan with the same chain of transmitters, but he made no mention of the act of 'A'isha (being admitted as a wife in the house of the Holy Prophet).
And who among the wives of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) was dearer to him than I, and' A'isha liked that the women (of her family) should enter the houses as brides during the month of Shawwal.
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) contracted marriage with me in Shawwal and took me to his house as a bride during Shawwal.

Islamica Community Forums - Who's fasting for Shawwal?
If you observe it continuously, you may start on the fourth day and end on the ninth of day Shawwal, or you may select days at random, provided you complete six days before the end of Shawwal.
Thus, we see the wisdom and the reason why the Prophet (saas) mentioned six days after Ramadan in Shawwal, not five or seven.
It follows, then, that one Ramadan is equivalent to ten months of fasting, and the clincher, six days, is equal to two months, (6x10=60).

Frequently Asked Questions and Fatawa on Ramadaan
Is it permitted to observe fasting the six days of Shawwal, (the tenth month of the Islamic calendar), before making up days which were missed of the fasting Ramadaan?
Therefore, it is better to make up the days that one missed of Ramadaan, then observe fasting six days of Shawwal.
This is based on the Hadith of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) which is reported by Muslim: "He whoever (completes) fasting the month of Ramadaan, then follows it up by fasting six days of Shawwal will be rewarded for a full year."

 Compensatory Fasting in Shawwal
The Hadith says: “Anyone who fasts the month of Ramadan and follows it with six days from Shawwal will have the reward for fasting the whole year.” This is based on the fact that God rewards every good deed with ten times its value.
You have to remember that the Hadith that encourages fasting six days after Ramadan tells us that fasting these six days, which are not specified to allow us to choose them according to what suits us best, make up the fasting so as to earn the reward of fasting the whole year.
Thus for the month of Ramadan you receive the reward of fasting ten months, and for the six days you get the reward of fasting sixty days, which are the equivalent of two more months.

That is to say, starting on the 2nd day of Shawwal and continuing straight till the 7th day of Shawwal?
One group states that the six optional fasts should start on the second day of Shawwal, the day after Eid al-Fitr, and the second group states that there is flexibility and one can fast the six before the expiry of the month of Shawwal.
Since there is no text explicitly stipulating that the fasts must be done consecutively after Eid al-Fitr, it is an interpretation on the part of those who insist the fasts must be consecutive.

This requires you to sacrifice a sheep in gratitude to Allah for enabling you to do both duties.
There is no restriction on any person to offer the Umrah in the month of Shawwal or Thul-Qaadah or Thul-Hajjah, which are the three months of pilgrimage.
Having said that, I must add that if after he has done the Umrah in this period, and before he comes back for pilgrimage, he leaves to any place beyond the point of Meeqat and then comes back for his pilgrimage, the Umrah he had done does not affect his pilgrimage in anyway.
