Salt Sermon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Two days after Rigdon preached the Salt Sermon, 80 Latter Day Saints signed a statement (the so-called Danite Manifesto) warning the dissenters to "depart, or a more fatal calamity shall befall you." The dissenters and their families subsequently fled the county.
According to Rigdon, the dissenters were like the "salt" spoken of by Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew (see Matthew 5:13): "If the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted?
The dissenters included Book of Mormon witnesses Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer, and John Whitmer, and other leaders including W.W. Phelps.

The End Times » Blog Archive » Sermon on the Mount - Salt & Light
An everlasting covenant is called a covenant of salt (Numbers 18:19); and the gospel is an everlasting gospel.
Mankind, lying in ignorance and wickedness, were a vast heap of unsavoury stuff, ready to putrefy; but Christ sent forth his disciples, by their lives and doctrines, to season it with knowledge and grace, and so to render it acceptable to God, to the angels, and to all that relish divine things.
Now Christ’s disciples having themselves learned the doctrine of the gospel, and being employed to teach it to others, were as salt.

 Salt and Light
Like salt must retain saltiness, the Christians, disciples of Jesus Christ, must have these 8 attributes.
It comes from the passages in the Sermon on the Mount after 8 blessings were mentioned.
Nothing of the Bible study will be of their interest but they will be more sensitive of who will or will not be chosen as leader of the Men’s or Women’s Mission Group.

 LDS Living
It was a special sermon for his most faithful disciples, given to those who had already demonstrated that they were willing to accept him as Savior and Redeemer and enter into a covenant relationship with him.
What is there about salt that would enable the Savior to teach the desired lesson and leave an image that would continue to instruct his disciples throughout the ages to come.
To understand why the Savior informed his most faithful disciples that they were the salt, it may be helpful to consider some other things he might have called them.

 5 Epiphany, 2/7/99
When you welcome newcomers to your house, or your church, you are being salt, for you are offering the covenant of God to them through your hospitality.
When you work for peace and justice in the public forum, and raise your voice for the ones who cannot be heard by themselves, you are being salt, for you are bearing witness to the covenant of God.

 Matthew5
We are salt by being a living member of Christ’s church.
Therefore, even though the church does not consist of sinless people either, nevertheless it is in the church that the salt of God’s Word and the renewing work of the Holy Spirit call corruption to a halt.
With these latter words He wants to refer to the task given to the church, and to each individual member of the church: "You are the salt of the earth!" We thus have been given a salting task.

 St Theodore's Sermon
Remember Jesus begins the sermon on the mount with a list of blessings that come to those who behave in a way that reflects their relationship with God.
So we can get some idea of what Jesus had in mind when he told his disciples that they were the salt of the earth.
We should be like a light that shines into the world showing the glory of God and offering the salvation that Jesus Christ brings for all people.

Voice Bible Studies, The Gospel of Matthew, Matthew 5:1-48, Lesson 4
The Sermon is one of the best-loved sections of the Bible and contains the most well-known teachings of Jesus.
It does seem clear that Matthew presented the Sermon as a summary of Jesus’ teaching about the Kingdom of God.
This interpretation says, "Blessed are the meek, but if you aren’t meek, you are cursed." This view has often led to understanding the Sermon as an expression of the impossible ideal for believers.

The Salt March was primarily about empowerment; it told people that they were stronger than they thought and that their oppressors were weaker than they imagined.

It was not merely about removing the British but to demonstrate what an ideal society should look like, how ideal lives should be lived.

Salt and Light - Sermon on the Mount - Series on What Jesus Said - With Bible Puzzles and Quizzes
introduces the sermon on the Mount by saying that Jesus was "proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom".
The issue is not whether your works are seen or not, but where the glory will go, and for whom you are seeking the glory --yourself or God.
In Matthew 5:16 Jesus says that our good works should be seen of men, yet in 6:1 he says not to practice our righteousness before men to be seen by them.

Living God's Way: "Be A Person of Influence"
In this sermon, Jesus presents His "platform." In the 107 verses of this message Jesus offers powerful truths on all of life's key issues like happiness, adultery, murder, forgiveness, divorce, oaths, retribution, prayer, fasting, hypocrisy and much more.
According to Jesus, Christians are to have a definite, lasting impact on the world around them because the character and person of Jesus Christ lives in us.

It is believed there was some editing, of course, but that substantially this story, as well as the verses calling us to be salt and light in the world, come from a tradition older than the Gospels themselves.
Some of us feel persecuted, some of us are persecuted, for being LGBTQQ, for being people of faith, we are used to insults and false accusations, people telling lies about us, especially some religious leaders, and we are misunderstood and maligned in most of the world.
There is a biblical studies theory that proposes that some of the content in our gospels come from a book called by the scholars “Q”.

I am convinced God wants this congregation to be a salt shaker.
After last week's Gospel, in which Jesus declared the radical reversal which makes the powerless happy, today we are challenged to be salt and light.

 Sermon #04-117/Pastor Levi J
Just be who you are: Salt and Light…influences in the world for Jesus Christ.
When you step outside the Bible, you find that, in ancient times, salt was a symbol of purity because of its whiteness.
I want to take very seriously the purpose of a pastor-teacher in Ephesians 4:11, "equipping the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ." Adult Sunday School is presenting an easy, step by step method to share your faith.

Ministry Maker: Impact the World by Pastor Gary Linton
If we are being the salt Jesus says we are to be then the world will become thirsty for what we have and see Jesus as the only one who can satisfy their thirsty soul (John 4:13).
Let's be the light and salt we are supposed to be as Jesus' disciples.
We have a lively and fun time in our church, but that is to motivate us to do our job and go outside the doors of the church to get on the "meat".

Thanksgiving Sermon by Lay Preacher Donna Herbster
Every true disciple is described by Jesus as the "salt of the earth" and the "light of the world." Every true disciple is given one mission.
That mission is, “For the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, do all the good you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.
We can not just sit by and claim to be Gods people and leave it at that.

 Vance Havner Sermons
We need old-fashioned salt, and if we do not start producing more of it in our churches, we shall be good for nothing but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.
It sounds old-fashion, but salt is old-fashioned, sin is old-fashioned and so is the Gospel.
You may think that your community is in a bad state, but take out the church and you would not want to live there.

 "Salt on Your Tongue"
The priest would take a part of it, add frankincense, salt it and burn it as a "pleasing odor to the Lord." This acknowledged the connection, the bond and the promises in the relationship that the giver had with God.
You see, Jews of Jesus' day would have associated salt with the religious sacrificial system in the Temple.
The disciples have quarreled over which of them is the greatest.

 Salty Salt
The only thing that will preserve us in that day is the presence of the Salt, the presence of Jesus Christ in our lives.
It is the presence of Christ in His saints that prevents the world from disintegrating.
If we as God's people are not good salt, then how will the wicked really thirst for the water of life and for the latter rain of the Holy Spirit?

 SERMON ON THE MOUNT: BEATITUDES
When we look at these gracious words of Jesus (which He taught His disciples), that are recorded below from the Gospel of Matthew, we are reminded of what it is to be a true disciple of Christ.
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him.

Spoken without love, it can turn people away from the gospel.
