 Encyclopedia4U - Thomas - Encyclopedia Article
Thomas was one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ.
Thomas is revered as a saint in both the Roman Catholic Church and in the Eastern Orthodox Church, and is remembered each year on St Thomas Sunday, which is always one week after Easter.
In the Synoptic gospels and the Book of Acts he is listed with the other apostles, but nothing else is written about him.

Saint Thomas the Apostle - PATRON SAINT - a man of great faith - Saint Thomas Catholic Church, Kuantan, Malaysia
Thomas, once thought to be weaker in faith than the other apostles toiled through the grace of God more bravely, more zealously and tirelessly than them all.
Thomas did not believe the other disciples about the Resurrection of Jesus Christ: "Unless I see in His hand the wound of the nail, and place my finger into the wound in His side, I shalt not believe".
Thomas was not with them, when Jesus came and he declares that he does not believe unless he himself sees the holes that the nails made in his hand.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Saint Thomas of Mylapur
Ambrosio, O.P., was consecrated bishop for the Dominican missions at Cranganore and Mylapur.
The foundations of the British Indian Empire of the present day were laid, so to say, by Sir Francis Day in the sandy delta of a tiny river, some three and a half miles north of Saint Thomas, with the beginnings of Fort St. George.
It is instructive to note, that with the single exception of the Archdiocese of Madras, all of the dioceses into which the original Diocese of Saint Thomas of Mylapur is divided are served by non-British clergy, save for the Indian and few Indo-European priests, where there are any.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: St. Thomas the Apostle
Little is recorded of St. Thomas the Apostle, nevertheless thanks to the fourth Gospel his personality is clearer to us than that of some others of the Twelve.
Besides the "Acta Thomae" of which a different and notably shorter redaction exists in Ethiopic and Latin, we have an abbreviated form of a so-called "Gospel of Thomas" originally Gnostic, as we know it now merely a fantastical history of the childhood of Jesus, without any notably heretical colouring.
First, when Jesus announced His intention of returning to Judea to visit Lazarus, "Thomas" who is called Didymus [the twin], said to his fellow disciples: "Let us also go, that we may die with him" (John 11:16).

 Saint Thomas
Thomas is listed in John 21:1-8 with six other disciples on the Sea of Galilee when Jesus told them to cast a net, and in Acts 1:13, with other apostles in the upper room in Jerusalem after the Ascension.
Syrian Christians of Malabar India cherish the tradition that Thomas brought them the Gospel (they call themselves the Mar Thomas Church).
A priest then ran a spear through him.

Lives of the Saints, July 6, Saint Thomas More, Saint Goar, Saint Palladius
Saint Prosper says that he was consecrated bishop by the same Pope Celestine, and then sent with relics of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, as first bishop to the nation of the Christian Scots.
The Scottish historians tell us that the Faith was first planted in North Britain about the year 200, in the time of King Donald, when Saint Victor I was Pope; but they all acknowledge that Palladius was the first bishop of that country, and they call him their first Apostle.
The Saint had already offered to do penance for seven years for a fault of the bishop of Trier which had become known.
