Saint Patrick's Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As well as being a celebration of Irish culture, Saint Patrick's Day is a Christian festival celebrated in the Catholic Church, the Church of Ireland (among other churches in the Anglican Communion) and some other denominations.
In church calendars (though rarely in secular ones) Saint Patrick's Day is moved to the following Monday when it falls on a Sunday.
In the recent past, Saint Patrick's Day was celebrated only as a religious holiday.

 Saint Patrick FAQ
During his 29 years as a missionary, it is said that Patrick baptized over 120,000 Irishmen, and established at least 300 churches (the Four Annals say 600 Churches) in which the Saviour God was owned, the Word of God was preached and the triune God was worshiped.
At least six New Testament epistles are addressed directly “to the saints.” The authors were not writing to dead people, but to all those who believe this: “By grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8).
Patrick was born about the end of the 4th century.

 www.St-Patricks-Day.com - ABOUT SAINT PATRICK
Saint Patrick is believed to have been born in the late fourth century, and is often confused with Palladius, a bishop who was sent by Pope Celestine in 431 to be the first bishop to the Irish believers in Christ.
Saint Patrick described himself as a "most humble-minded man, pouring forth a continuous paean of thanks to his Maker for having chosen him as the instrument whereby multitudes who had worshipped idols and unclean things had become the people of God."
Most of what is known about him comes from his two works, the Confessio, a spiritual autobiography, and his Epistola, a denunciation of British mistreatment of Irish christians.

 About Saint Patrick
Saint Patrick told the people that the shamrock was like the idea of the Trinity — that in the one God there are three divine beings: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The shamrock was sacred to the Druids, so Saint Patrick’s use of it in explaining the trinity was very wise.
In Ireland, Saint Patrick’s Day is both a holy day and a national holiday.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: St. Patrick
Patrick besought God to scatter the demons, but for a time it would seem as if his prayers and tears were in vain.
When St. Patrick, at the close of the ceremony, saw the blood flow, and asked him why he had been silent, he replied, with genuine heroism, that he thought it might be part of the ceremony, a penalty for the joyous blessings of the Faith that were imparted.
It was on this second solemn occasion that St. Patrick is said to have plucked a shamrock from the sward, to explain by its triple leaf and single stem, in some rough way, to the assembled chieftains, the great doctrine of the Blessed Trinity.
