Sahih Bukhari - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Sahih" is an Arabic word that means among other things "authentic", so "Sahih Bukhari" could be translated as "Bukhari's Authentic Sources".
It is said that before he placed a hadith in his collection, he would perform ghusl (full\greater ablution) and prayed two Rakah (Islamic unit for form of prayer) Nafl (voluntary prayer) to ask Allah for guidance.
Shia do not hold it the same high esteem, accepting some and rejecting others as false, some of which, in their opinion, defame Muhammad and his pure household (Ahl al Bayt).

Introduction to Translation of Sahih Bukhari
Sahih Bukhari is a collection of sayings and deeds of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), also known as the sunnah.
Bukhari's collection is recognized by the overwhelming majority of the Muslim world to be one of the most authentic collections of the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh).
Bukhari (full name Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Ismail bin Ibrahim bin al-Mughira al-Ja'fai) was born in 194 A.H. and died in 256 A.H. His collection of hadith is considered second to none.

Ummah.com - Who is Sahih Bukhari?
Bukhari's Sahih is still the second most sacred book of Muslims.
IMAM Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Ismaeel bin al-Mughirah al-Bukhari was born on 13th of Shawwal 194 AH in Bukhara.
Al-Bukhari himself believed his destiny was to transmit his knowledge to colleagues, experts in khadithes, and all Muslim believers, for he kept in mind the Prophet's commandment: "The man who dies will live forever only if he leaves science of use to the peoples".

 Some backgorund about Sahih Bukhari
According to Imam Bukhari for a hadith muanan to be under the category of unbroken chain of narrators, the narrator and from whom he is narrating must be contemporaries and must meet at least once.
Apart from that, Imam Bukhari designed and brightened his book with other aspects as well, for eg., he would deduce fiqhi aspects from the hadith, he would express the authenticity of the hadith by presenting another sanad (chain of narrators).
A question arises that if according to Imam Bukhari, the chain of narrators must be an unbroken one, why are there ahadith-e-muanan (hadith with an-an).

One of the revelations which came to him was the verse of stoning.
Malik reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: If there were two valleys of gold for the son of Adam, he would long for another one, and his mouth will not be filled with dust, and Allah returns to him who repents.
What was reported on this subject from Umar, Abu Musa, Bukhari, Muslim, Ahmad Hanbal, al-Hakim, and Kulaini is completely rejected and absolutely unacceptable, if they want to mean the incompleteness of Quran.

 'Al-Jami' Al-Sahih': A Review
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah assembled all these topics in his Al-Jami'us Sahih preserving the highest level of authenticity in the whole collection, precisely accepting only those narrations which were undisputedly narrated by and culminated at, without any gaps in the chain, to the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam himself.
His words are "Al Jami' Al Musnad Al Sahih Al Mukhtasar min Umoori Rasulillahi wa Sunanihi wa Ayyamihi", a liberal translation of which would mean ‘The concise, comprehensive, authentic and uninterruptedly chained collection of the accounts, traditions and expeditions of the Prophet of God’.
It was greatly seen that a narrator was acceptable to Imam Bukhari rahimahullah and another to Imam Muslim rahimahullah exclusively, when Al-Hakim rahimahullah, ironically, rendered their narration from one another simply acceptable on the authority of the Shaykhain rahimahumallah.

It is this incident that led to the revelation of the first few verses of the 66th surah of the Quran though there is another tradition also recorded in Sahih Bukhari that claims a different reason for the revelation of the these verses.
Bukhari and other compilers of the traditions ascribed to the Holy Prophet set different measures for the acceptance of a report.
What Bukhari and Muslim and other compilers of the traditions of the Prophet did is to apply strict checks on acceptance of a report about the acts and sayings of the Prophet (sws).

The questions are sometimes asked (1) whether all the Ulema of Hadith agree that all the hadiths in al-Bukhari and Muslim are sahih or (2) if there are any scholars who consider them to contain some weak narrations, and (3) whether one who believes that "the Sahihayn are not 100% sahih" is an innovator.
