Rosh Hashanah (Talmud) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Once there arose a dispute between him and [[Joshua (Talmudic scholar)Joshua]] regarding the Tishri moon; the latter, in obedience to the nasi, came on foot to Jamnia on the day which he had calculated to be the Day of Atonement, and the two scholars made peace (iii.).
The book contains the most important rules concerning the calendar year, together with a description of the inauguration of the months, and laws on the form and use of the shofar and on religious services during the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah.
Curious as is the order of subjects followed in this treatise, in which several mishnaic sources have been combined, the Tosefta follows it, adding comments that form the basis of the Gemara in both Talmuds.

Rosh Hashanah - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Both the Worldwide Church of God position and Jewish tradition (from the Talmud) teach that the righteous have their names written in the Book of Life and that they will be rewarded on Tishri 1.
It is written in the Talmud, in the tractate on Rosh Hashanah that three books of account are opened on Rosh ha-Shanah, wherein the fate of the wicked, the righteous, and those of an intermediate class are recorded.
Rosh Hashanah extends over the first two days of the Hebrew month of Tishrei, even in Israel where most holidays last only one day.

Therefore, the sound of the shofar on Rosh HaShanah is a remembrance of the day at Mount Sinai when Israel accepted her covenant with God: the Torah.
Rosh Hashanah, as previously mentioned, means, "Head of the Year." The first day of the seventh month then marks and remembers the anniversary of the completion of creation as well as the day that God became King over that new creation.
Therefore, sound of the shofar on Rosh Hashanah is a remembrance of the coronation of the King of the Universe, and it symbolizes our acceptance of God as King.

Sichos In English: Rosh Hashanah, 5747
The theme of Rosh Hashanah is similar to this, and that is why among the verses recited in the segment of Shofros on Rosh Hashanah Mussaf we also recite those verses which describe the awesome experience of Mattan Torah (the giving of the Torah at Sinai).
This is also especially pertinent on Rosh Hashanah, since we include the description of the trumpeting shofar at the time of Mattan Torah in the Scriptural verses recited in the "Shofros" section of the Mussaf prayer.
The Rosh Hashanah maamarim of the year 5666 explain, that the three aspects of Rosh Hashanah -- kingship, remembrance and the shofar, refer to three aspects of G-dly light; the light of the Immanent life-force in the world, the transcendental light and the revelation of the true sequestered essence of the true Ein Sof.

Rosh HaShanah / The Feast of Trumpets - Chapter 7
Rosh in Hebrew means "chief or head" and shanah means "year." Rosh HaShanah is the head of the year on the civil calendar, and is also known as the birthday of the world since the world was created on this day (Talmud, Rosh Hashanah 11a).
The average person on Rosh HaShanah is judged by G-d and is neither written in the book of life or the book of the wicked.
The reason that Rosh HaShanah is the seventh month in the biblical religious calendar is that G-d made the month of Nisan the first month of the year in remembrance of Israel's divine liberation from Egypt (Exodus [Shemot] 12:2; 13:4).

Rosh Hashanah History,History of Rosh Hashanah,History,Rosh HashanahHistory and tradition
Rosh Hashanah begins this year at sunset on September 18, 2001,.On the Rosh Hashanah day we spend a large portion of the day engaged in prayer, proclaiming G-d's kingship and His rule over the world.
In the Rosh HaShana prayers, we recite "This day is the beginning of Your works, the commemoration of the first day." The Talmud tells us (Rosh HaShana 27a) that our basis for reciting this verse in the prayers is the opinion of Rabi Eliezer, who said that the world was created in Tishrei.
The Talmud (Rosh HaShana 31a) writes that on Friday, we recite the verse "G-d will have reigned, He will have donned grandeur" (Psalms 93) because His work was completed on that day and He then ruled over them.

On the afternoon of Rosh Hashanah on the first day (providing it is not a Saturday), there is a tradition for Jews to gather by streams of running water or by the sea and symbolically cast their sins upon the waters.
The prayer speaks of God's judgement on Rosh Hashanah and that the fate of all individuals is decided on this day.
The name Rosh Hashanah was not given to the day until after the Bible was completed.

 l e a r n @ j t s LUMINARIES The Enigma of Rosh Hashanah
We are also told (Rosh Hashanah 1:2) that on this day, "...all who come into the world pass before God like legions of soldiers." The Mishnah understands this metaphor to denote that on this day, all human beings pass before God in judgment.
The Mishnah's reference to Rosh Hashanah as a day on which all people come before God "like legions of soldiers" arises from the imperial reach of Yom Kippur, celebrated just ten days after Rosh Hashanah.
In testimony to their choice, to this day, after each of the three soundings of the shofar in our Rosh Hashanah musaf service, we recite a brief prayer beginning with the words, "Today the world came into being..." These words are followed immediately by the words, "Today all human beings are judged..." Note the juxtaposition.
