Judaism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Judaism is the religion of the Jewish people, with around 14 million followers (as of 2005 [1]).
Despite this, Judaism in all its variations has remained tightly bound to a number of religious principles, the most important of which is the belief in a single, omniscient, omnipotent, omnibenevolent, transcendent God, who created the universe and continues to be involved in its governance.
Although monotheism is fundamental to Rabbinic Judaism, many critical Bible scholars claim that certain verses in the Torah imply that the early Israelites accepted the existence of other gods, while viewing their God as the sole Creator, whose worship is obligated (a rather henotheistic point of view).

Reconstructionist Judaism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most Reconstructionists do not believe in revelation (the idea that God, in some way, can reveal God's will to humans).
Unlike classical Reform Judaism, Reconstructionism Judaism holds that a person's default position should be to incorporate Jewish laws and tradition into their lives, unless they have a specific reason to do otherwise.
The role of non-Jews in Reconstructionist congregations is a matter of ongoing debate.

Reform Judaism in the United States maintians a seminary, the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (Cincinnati); a rabbinical organization, the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR); and a confederation of synagogues, the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (UAHC).
(Orthodox Judaism maintains that the very principle of Reform is in conflict with the basic principle of faith that the Torah is immutable.) After the Emancipation and the emergence of the Jew into Western society, the need for a degree of adaptation of the traditional faith to the new conditions of life was keenly felt.
Although Reconstructionists like Milton Steinberg were believers in the Personal God of traditional Judaism, the movement generally follows Kaplan's naturalistic interpretation in which God is the 'power that makes for salvation'.

 MyJewishLearning.com - History & Community: Reconstructionist Judaism
More controversial have been the Reconstructionist liturgical texts, The New Hagaddah (published in 1941) and The Sabbath Prayer Book (published in 1945), which altered the working of the traditional Hebrew text, substituting alternate wording for phrases referring to the chosenness of Israel, the resurrection of the dead and the Messiah.
The Reconstructionist movement had at its core the stated belief that God could not literally choose one people over another and that the idea of privileged access to God promoted dangerous feelings of superiority.
Kaplan instead argued that all peoples and civilizations had equal access to the divine, and he was willing to embrace the belief that non-Jews could also operate as transmitters of religious ideals.
