Topic: Ramakrishna Paramahamsa

 Ramakrishna Mission
Ramakrishna's experience was that the truth of all religions is a manifestation of the Shakti, or Divine Mother, and that this divine power is at work with everyone, including the poor, and thus inspiring the Mission's social service.
The Mission follows the inspiration of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa (1834-86), whose spiritual experience included bhakti, Tantra, and Advaita Vedanta, as well as visionary realizations in Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity, and from these experiences he claimed that all religions lead to the same divine realization.
After Ramkumar died in 1856, Ramakrishna became priest of the Kali temple.

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ramakrishna's mystical realization, classified by Hindu tradition as nirvikalpa samadhi (literally, "constant meditation", thought to be absorption in the all-encompassing Consciousness), led him to believe that the gods of the various religions are merely so many interpretations of the Absolute, and that the Ultimate Reality could never be expressed in human terms.
Ramakrishna Kathamrita (http://www.kathamrita.org/) literally, The Nectar of Ramakrishna, usually translated as The Gospel of Rmakrishna.
The Ramakrishna Mission was founded by Swami Vivekananda, but it was his spiritual master, Ramakrishna, who indirectly provided the main impetus for this movement.

 A short biography of Ramakrishna
Ramakrishna's message was welcomed by both the rural and urban religious people who did puja to the divine mother Kali as a protective and benevolent deity (Kali also has a fierce and destructive side which she generally does not show to those who worship her).
Ramakrishna's father had a vision of the god Gadadhara (Vishnu) while on a religious pilgrimage.
Ramakrishna also appealed to those with an interest in yoga and esoteric practices by practicing a nondual form of meditation prescribed by Totapuri which seeks samadhi.

 Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa
When Ramakrishna paid his visit to Trailanga Swami he later declared him to be a real Paramahamsa, a "veritable image of Siva." Ramakrishna also described the Swami as having taken a vow of silence, but also quotes him regarding the mind, so apparently he was not always silent (possibly writing responses).
Soon word spread about this remarkable man who was to become known as Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and people of all denominations and all stations of life began to come to him.
Ramakrishna's American religious offshoot, The Vedanta Society of Southern California, under the auspices of Huxley and Isherwood, seemed to place an extraordinary heavy emphasis on Samadhi, but, although an intregal part of the Ramakrishna movement generally, Samadhi didn't seem to carry any more than its regualar importance otherwise.

Ramakrishna's teachings regarding the highest truths of spiritual life were delivered in the simplest language and were punctuated by parables and homely metaphors as illustrations.
When as a young man he became a temple priest, he was seized by an unquenchable thirst for union with God, and he immersed himself in intense meditation and other spiritual practices.
Among his many other noteworthy characteristics were his universality and childlike purity, his intense sincerity, his vast knowledge of things spiritual and human (which came not from book-learning but from direct perception), and his extraordinary power to transform lives.

Probably at the Bhairavi's prodding, Mathur (Ramakrishna's patron) brought in a local Tantric scholar named Vaishnavacharan, whom the Bhairavi seems to have known, to establish the Bhairavi's conclusions that Ramakrishna's seemingly pathological behavior was in fact a sign of his unprecendented religious status.
