Roy assured him that this would not violate religious liberty because it was, in his estimation, an optional rite and not a true part of Hindu religion.
In his Second Appeal, 1821, and Final Appeal, 1823, Roy used a historical-critical study of Christian scripture to show that Jesus was not divine and not part of the Trinity, that salvation came through the teaching of Jesus and not vicarious atonement, and that the Holy Spirit had no separate existence.
