 DESI - ARTICLE (Bhartiya Scriptures)
The Raghuvamsa differs somewhat from the standardised list: Raghu is the son of Dilipa, Dirghabahu being absent; the king Dala is known as Sila; Uktha is absent, and Vajranabha is known as Unnabha; Pushya is absent, and in his place are found Kausalya, Putra and Poushya.
The sudden ending of Raghuvamsa with Agnivarna lends considerable credence to an Indian traditionwhich holds that the present version is truncated; the original apparently contained twenty-five, and not the nineteen chapters available today.
There are some who hold the view that Kalidasa died before he completed the Raghuvamsa, but I do not subscribe to this view.

 1st verse of Kalidasa's Raghuvamsa
This verse, which invokes the ability to accurately comprehend words and their meanings, is a saluatation to Parvati and Siva, the "parents of the universe," who are inseparable—like words and their meanings.
This beautiful invocation is the first verse of the first canto of the great poem, The Raghuvamsa, by the poet and dramatist Kalidasa, who is believed to have lived in the fifth century AD.
So that I might attain right knowledge and understanding of words and their meanings, I worship the parents of the universe, Parvati and Paramesvara (Siva), who are perfectly united just like words and their meanings.

The Sun is considered to be the progenitor of Rama's dynasty which is called the Sun dynasty (Raghukula or Raghuvamsa, Raghu means Sun and Kula or Vamsa mean familial descendant).
Rama is also known as Raghunatha, Raghupati, Raghavendra etc. That all these names begin with the prefix Raghu is also suggestive of some link with Sun-worship.

As with most classical Indian authors, little is known about Kalidasa's person or his historical relationships.
The six works identified as genuine are the dramas Abhijñanasakuntala (“The Recognition of Sakuntala”), Vikramorvasi (“Urvasi Won by Valour”), and Malavikagnimitra (“Malavika and Agnimitra”); the epic poems Raghuvamsa (“Dynasty of Raghu”) and Kumarasambhava (“Birth of the War God”); and the lyric “Meghaduta” (“Cloud Messenger”).
