Quraish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quraish (Arabic: قريش) refers to the Meccan tribe that Muhammad belonged to.
The Quraish had become a prominent tribe in Mecca before the birth of Muhammad and essentially ruled the city.
Before Muhammad's birth, the tribe had split into different clans, each with different responsibilities.

An Enlightening Commentary into the Light of The Holy Qur'an Volume 2
This was an open admonition to the Quraish who, at the start of the ministry of the holy Prophet (s), had been the most persistent enemies of the apostle of Allah and the message of the Unity of the Lord which he preached.
They describe the blessings the Quraish tribe were given to enjoy; might they be thankful to Him and worship Him, the Lord of the Sacred House (Ka'ba) from which they obtained all their honour and high social status.
It was the position of the Quraish with regard to their connection with their services to the Holy Ka'ba that they received, by the Will of Allah, the security and honour from the people.

 ESSCR: Historical Background
As soon as masters of Quraish were sure that The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was not to be tempted by money or tribal power to stop spreading the divine message he was charged with, they announced openly their enmity to him and his followers.
Quraish's masters did not believe Muhammad (PBUH), and instead of just turning him down by refusing his quest, they were provoked and tried once more to attack him.
In the meantime both Quraish and The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), also according to the treaty, were responsible for observing the tribes under their protection.

As the Quraish became accustomed, (that is,) accustomed to their journeys in the winter and the summer, so they should worship the Lord of this House, Who has fed them against hunger and made them secure against fear.
It tells us of the Quraish, who have been blessed time and again by God, who stand at the altar of His throne on earth, and yet still do not move to embrace Him.
But again it a comfort from this that is offered to them through the verses that call them to worship their Lord.

Syed Maududi's Commentary for Surah #106
The tribe of Quraish was scattered throughout Hijaz until the time of Qusayy bin Kilab, the ancestor of the Holy Prophet (upon whom be Allah's peace).
And according to a tradition from Hadrat Ali in Baihaqi, the Holy Prophet said: "First the leadership of the Arabians was in the hands of the people of Himyar, then Allah withdrew it from them and gave it to Quraish".
Although Dahhak and Kalbi regard it as a Madani Surah, yet a great majority of the commentators are agreed that it is Makki, and a manifest evidence of this are the words Rabba hadh-al-Bait (Lord of this House) of this Surah itself.

There was no such a persecution even though Muhammad exasperated the Quraish to their limit of forbearance with his triad of insults.
