Topic: Philip the Evangelist

 Philip the Evangelist
Philip the Evangelist was one of the Seven deacons.
All were equally faithful to declare the truth, for those that were scattered preached.
We find that the Jewish religion was prevalent in Meroe, for the Queen's confidential advisor went to worship at Jerusalem.

 Philip, the Evangelist
Philip started at that very scripture and told him the good news about Jesus; how he had come to earth, been killed and how that God had raised him from the dead.
The man said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."

PHILIP, THE EVANGELIST Bible Study - International Standard Bible Encyclopedia - PHILIP, THE EVANGELIST Definition
Whether Philip, bearing a Greek name, was a Hellenist, is not known, but his missionary work reveals to us one free from the religious prejudices of the strict Hebrew.
The next incident recorded is the conversion of a Gentile, who was, however, a worshipper of the God of Israel, a eunuch under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: St. Philip the Apostle
Philip obeyed the call, and a little later brought Nathaniel as a new disciple (John 1:43-45).
When Philip, after Christ had spoken to His Apostles of knowing and seeing the Father, said to Him: "Lord, shew us the Father, and it is enough for us", he received the answer: "He that seeth me, seeth the Father also" (xiv, 8-9).
The statement of Bishop Polycrates carries in itself more authority, but it is extraordinary that three virgin daughters of the Apostle Philip (two buried in Hieropolis) should be mentioned, and that the deacon Philip should also have four daughters, said to have been buried in Hieropolis.

 Abomination of Desolation
Philip fled to Samaria, where he preached the Gospel to the Samaritans, a group who had split off from the Jewish people about six centuries earlier, had intermarried with other peoples, and were considered outsiders by most Jews.
After this, Philip was sent by God to walk along the road from Jerusalem southwest to Gaza, where he met a eunuch (a term meaning literally a castrated man, but also used to mean simply an official of a royal court) of the Queen of Ethiopia, returning home after worshipping in Jerusalem.
The man was baptized, and went on his way rejoicing, while Philip went north to Caesarea, the major seaport of Israel, and its secular capital.

People of the Bible: Philip the Evangelist
Philip was appointed along with Stephen and other Hellenists (Greek-speakers) to oversee the distribution.
After Stephen was martyred, Philip took the gospel to Samaria.
Early Christians shared possessions in common, but the Hebrew wing of the church complained to the Hellenist group that their widows were being neglected in the daily distributions of food.

 Philip the Evangelist
And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
8 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.

 PHILIP THE EVANGELIST
40 Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and travelled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.
39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.
31 “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

Philip received the message from an angel to meet a man from Ethiopia in Gaza, a eunuch of great authority under Queen Candace, and inspired the Ethiopian to be baptized (Acts 8:26-39).

 Strange Things In New Orleans
He said, "I am an evangelist and I preach the ABC's of the Gospel of Jesus Christ." Actually, though, he only referred to the Gospel, and didn't explain what it is. Yes, he said Jesus is the Savior, but that is not a clear presentation of the Gospel.
But since Bonnke does not believe the Gospel can be summarized this way, I suppose this is why, in the midst of all his ranting and raving and telling of strange stories, he didn't actually get around to preaching the Gospel message clearly and simply.
Men must have the Gospel explained to them in a clear manner whereby they can understand it before they can be saved by it.

The Charismatic Movement: A Biblical Critique by Brian Schwertley
For if what Charismatics teach is true, the evangelist Philip would have encouraged these new believers to pray and seek the second blessing.
The fact that God did not baptize the Samaritans with the Holy Spirit until the laying on of the hands of the apostles is clearly due to the unique historical situation at that time.
This passage is an excellent proof text against the Charismatic movement.
