Patriarchs (Bible) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the New Testament, King David is referred to as a patriarch, as are Jacob's twelve sons (the ancestors of the Twelve tribes of Israel).
Collectively, they are referred to as the three patriarchs (sh'loshet ha-avot) of Judaism, and the period in which they lived is known as the patriarchal period.

One of the sons of Noah, according the Bible, was Shem, the eponymous father of the Semites, and Ham, the eponymous father of the Hamites.
According the Bible, they were the first humans, but it does not detract from the fact that the first humans were a single family.

In the Hebrew Bible the number is 1,656, in the Samaritan, 1,307; in the Septuagint, 2,242.
From Adam to Noe the Bible enumerates ten patriarchs.
The following table contains the names of the patriarchs with their respective ages according to the Hebrew text, Septuagint, and Samaritan Bible; also the names of the reign of the ten Babylonian kings.

Antediluvian Patriarchs (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) :: Bible Tools
Ten patriarchs who lived before the Flood are listed in the genealogical table of Gen. 5, together with a statement of the age of each at the birth of his son, the number of years that remained to him till death, and the sum of both periods or the entire length of his life.
The customary excess of 100 years in the Septuagint over the other texts for the age of the patriarch at the birth of the son, and the variously divergent data for the total age of Jared, Methuselah and Lamech are, therefore, the matters that await explanation.
The third Babylonian king is Amelu, man, and the third patriarch is Enosh, also meaning man; the fourth king is Ummanu, artificer, and the fourth patriarch is Kenan, a name derived from a root meaning to form or fabricate.

James H Platt in the Oxford Companion to the Bible says that the identification of Ur of the Chaldees with the Ur in Sumer, “is not universally accepted”, and that “some scholars have suggested it is Urfa”.
J W Rogerson, in The Oxford Companion to the Bible openly declares that Mesopotamia is “the equivalent geographical name” as Aram-naharaim.
Stephen M Hooks, in the Lutterworth Dictionary of the Bible explains that the area meant by the name Aram-naharaim was the region between the Euphrates and the river Khabur, the precise place of origin of the family of Abraham.

Apologetics Press - The Bible, Science, and the Ages of the Patriarchs
The Bible specifically states that Adam, for example, lived 930 years (Genesis 5:5), Methuselah lived 969 years (Genesis 5:27), etc. However, as Leupold himself discussed in his two-volume Exposition of Genesis, some have suggested that while the Bible says these old worthies lived to be vast ages, that is not what it means.
The Bible, Science, and the Ages of the Patriarchs
The Bible similarly presents compelling evidence to eliminate the idea that men’s ages should be divided by 12 in order to arrive at an accurate figure for the number of years they actually lived.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Patriarch
Thus for instance, with regard to the antediluvian patriarchs, while the Samaritan version agrees in the main with the Massoretic text, the age at which Jared begot his first-born is set down as 62 instead of the Hebrew 162.
But apart from the critical considerations bearing on this passage, it is strange to note further on (Genesis 11) that the ages of the subsequent patriarchs were by no means limited to 120 years.
Mathusala, likewise, who according to the Hebrew begot his first-born at the age of 187, was only 67 according to the Samaritan; and though the Hebrew places the same event in the case of Lamech when he was 182, the Samaritan gives him only 53.

Romance of Bible Chronology -  Rev. Martin Anstey Preterist Bibliography
As there is no precedent in ante-diluvian times for placing the age of the Patriarchs at the birth of their sons so low as from 30 to 35 years, it seems probable that the Hebrew Text gives the true ages of the post-diluvian Patriarchs, as in fact they were.
THE Table of the Post-diluvian Patriarchs, with their ages at the birth of their sons, and the number of years in the residue of their lives as given in the Hebrew Text, has been manipulated in the LXX.
The Bible, as it was held in the hands of the common people, in the time of our Lord, was the LXX.

Biblical Reliability in Archaeology - ChristianAnswers.Net
Since the Bible is a religious book, many scholars take the position that it is biased and cannot be trusted unless we have corroborating evidence from extra-Biblical sources.
Although it is not possible to verify every incident in the Bible, the discoveries of archaeology since the mid 1800s have demonstrated the reliability and plausibility of the Bible narrative.
In other words, the Bible is guilty until proven innocent, and a lack of outside evidence places the Biblical account in doubt.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Genealogy (In the Bible)
Lenormant has left us a comparison between the antediluvian Patriarchs of the Bible and the antediluvian heroes of Chaldee tradition (Origines de l'histoire, I, Paris, 1880, pp.
For instance, the genealogy of Benjamin in I Par., vii, 6-12, is based on the data given in the Books of Genesis and Numbers; a more extensive genealogy of the same patriarch found in I Par., viii, 1-40, is based, no doubt, on written sources too, which are, however, unknown to us.
All this goes to show that the names actually found in the Biblical genealogies denote the same subject, but do not present the same form as the original names.
