Priesthood (Mormonism) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Melchizedek Priesthood is also referred to as the "high priesthood of the holy order of God" (Alma 4:20, 13:8), or the "Holy Priesthood, after the Order of the Son of God" (LDS DandC 107:3).
Priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
The Book of Mormon refers to priests that were "called and prepared from the foundation of the world according to the foreknowledge of God, on account of their exceeding faith and good works." (Alma 13:3).

 Gospel Link
Achieving the fulness of the priesthood of the Son of God is the great goal of all faithful Latter-day Saints, because it is the power of God unto salvation and eternal lives.
Priesthood bearers are charged to teach the gospel to all nations and peoples, to proclaim the knowledge of salvation.
The patriarchal order of the priesthood is the right of worthy priesthood-holding fathers to preside over their descendants through all ages; it includes the ordinances and blessings of the fulness of the priesthood shared by husbands and wives who are sealed in the temple (see Sealing: Temple Sealings).

 J. Smith a False Prophet
Priesthood is authority, the exclusive right to act in the name of God as his authorized agents and to perform ordinances for the purpose of opening certain spiritual blessings to all individuals.
The Mormon Church teaches that with the ascension of Jesus to the Father and the death of the Apostles the priesthood was lost and the Church went into complete Apostasy.
This explains the importance of the priesthood authority according the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

A patriarch is what is termed in scripture an evangelist, and Brother William acts in that capacity, and God placed in the church "first apostles," not first evangelists, but the president stands in the same relationship to the church as Moses did to the children of Israel, according to the revelations.
The presidency of the church, and not the patriarch.
Brother William is not patriarch over the whole church, but patriarch to the church, and as such he was ordained.

Analyzing The Different Orders Of The Patriarchal Priesthood
You ask, what is the difference between the Patriarchal Priesthood which the Prophet Joseph held, and the Patriarchal Priesthood and office that was given to the Church and Stake Patriarchs.
This being the case it is evident that the office and Priesthood of Church Patriarch must of necessity derive its Priesthood and authority in blessings through the the "High Priesthood" which was restored by Peter, James and John.
Included in the restoration which was brought to pass by the visitation of Peter, James and John, was the necessary sealing power to seal by the Holy spirit of Promise, with power sufficient to seal the Saints up to Celestial glory with a promise that they would obtain membership in the Church of the Firstborn.

New Covenant Church of God: FAQ117. The New Testament Priesthood
This, then, is the New Testament Priesthood and how, generally speaking, it functions in the New Covenant Church of God.
Such a church or denomination may truly be said to be apostate or heretic for it denies the New Covenant of Christ.
Most of the functions carried out by the Old Covenant Aaronic/Levitical Priesthood, that have not been superceded by the New Covenant in Christ (spiritual sacrifice, praise, intercession and stewardship) are now carried out by all the members, the priesthood of believers, as explained above.

 The Priesthood
The priesthood of the believer is not a true doctrine and it cannot be the ground for their feet.
Since the expression, "priesthood of the believers" is not found anywhere in the Bible, Protestants have had to invent such a phrase and then use it as though it is a scriptural expression.
The Protestants believe they have the "priesthood of believers" which they claim is given to them directly from the Holy Ghost.

Adelphiasophism: Doing the Right Thing or Obeying the Law - The Goddess and her Enemies
The Persians, under the infuence of Zoroaster, their prophet of the monotheistic god, Ormuzd, first introduced an extensive list of laws into religion in the form of questions put by the prophet to God.
It is perfectly moral to respect and obey a caring father, but quite another matter to pretend that some patriarchal "father" in heaven has handed down a long list of dos and don'ts to benefit some "father" on the throne who is in reality a tyrant.
Christianity apparently eschewed such lists except that it incorporated the Jewish scriptures into its own and made a principle of obedience to the laws of the secular state, initially Rome, irrespective of their justice.

The priesthood conferred appears to greatly contrast the authority described by the Lord in the scriptures.
As one views the many teachings on the priesthood that the Lord has given through the scriptures, it is a striking contrast to suggest that He might allow John Taylor to confer on those five men an authority described in such general terms.
The 1929 account of priesthood ordinations does not attempt to correlate the authority purportedly conferred with the numerous statements on the priesthood found in the Doctrine and Covenants.

 Excerpt from The Mormon Hierarchy
By contrast, early Mormons understood that priesthood meant divine power (separate from individual faith) that was conferred on mortals and was centered in the relationship of an individual with the powers of deity.
Understanding the growing sense of "church" and the increasingly structured view of authority as priesthood is necessary to comprehend the currently elaborate organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In contemporary LDS practice, elder is an office of the higher (or Melchizedek) priesthood and teacher and priest of the lesser (or Aaronic) priesthood.

Not only is priesthood "not gender," it is also not a plural noun, as some members are prone to use it as a collective definition for all men in the Church over age twelve.
Women share in the Priesthood sealing ordinance by virtue of their temple marriages and covenants, but the rights to officiate in priesthood offices or perform sacred ordinances are designated only to men.

Jun 1829 -- Early draft of the Articles and Covenants of the Church (DandC 20) stated, that the "Church shall be called The Church of Christ." The document, written by Oliver, indicated that the Church shall have elders, priests and teachers.
At that time the name of the Church was the "Church of Christ." The name "Church of the Latter Day Saints" was not adopted until 3 May 1834.
The words "Church of the Latter Day Saints" in the Patriarchal Blessing Book prove that these words could not have been spoken by Joseph Smith in December 1833.

[W]e diligently sought for the right of the fathers, and the authority of the holy priesthood, and the power to administer in the same; for we desired to be, followers of righteousness, and the possessors of greater knowledge, even the knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of God.
Significantly, teachings on ministerial authority in the Book of Commandments mirror what is found in the Bible as well as in the Book of Mormon and the Book of Moses.
