Pan (mythology) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pan was originally an Arcadian god, and Arcadia was always the principal seat of his worship.
Pan blew on his pipes, and with his rustic melody gave great satisfaction to himself and his faithful follower, Midas, who happened to be present.
Despite the declaration of his death, however, Pan is widely worshiped by Neopagans and Wiccans today, where he is considered a powerful God and an archetype of male virility and sexuality.

 Pan
Pan was also a god of fertility, unbridled male sexuality and carnal desire.
The other gods often referred to him as the youngest of them, but he was probably the oldest, having been first worshipped in Arcadia, where he was certainly being worshipped as early as the 6th century BC.
These were not gods but nature spirits, and were not worshipped but only believed in, and perhaps propitiated.

Dragon's Hoard - THE GREAT GOD PAN
The town was sacred to the worship of the god Min and the ram Mendes.
Yet Pan was benign to those who paid him worship, yielding the boons of the divine economy of nature, bounty to the farmers, herders, and fisher-folk who dedicated their first fruits to him, and health to all who properly approached his shrines of healing.
There he embraced the god and clothed himself in the skin of the sacred ram in which the god was incarnate.

 Apollo, Hermes and Pan
The judge of the contest was the god of Mt.
Apollo is a god connected with many things; there is no one thing he is the god of.
The god Hermes is seen holding the infant Dionysus, who will grow up to be the god of wine (and covered in the next section, 7).

 Lesser known facts about
Pan was the son of Hermes, (the magnificient Arcadian god).
Pan promised to make the Persians flee if the Athenians would begin to worship him in Athens.
It should be noted that some people believe Pan is the son of Zeus and not Hermes.

Pan Statue: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (horned god statue) sculpted by Oberon Zell
He is descibed as the son of the god Hermes by the Arcadian Nymph Dryope: "goatfooted, two-horned, noisy, and laughing..." He was also said to possibly be the son of Zeus by Amalthea the Cretan goat-goddess, nursemaid to Dionysus.
This modern interpretation is by Oberon Zell and is 6 1/2" tall, cast in polyresin.
Many ancient people had no shame around sex and considered it a viotal sign of health and divine blessing.

Greek Mythology: PAN God of Shepherds, Hunting, Panic, Rustic Music & Prophecy ( also Agreus Nomios Faunus ) w/ ...
Pan was occassionally identified with the goat-fish god Aigipan who assisted Zeus in his battle with the monster Typhoeus.
He was closely identified with several other rustic gods, including the Panes, a later multiplication of the form of Pan, sometimes called his sons; three Panes called Agreus, Nomios, and Phorbas, hunter, shepherd and frightener (the three aspects of the one Pan); the goat-fish god of Capricorn Aigipan; and the Phrygian Satyr Marsyas.
Pan was also associated with Aristaios, a Thessalian shepherd god who like Pan was worshipped under the titles Agreus (Hunter) and Nomios (Shepherd).

 Pan God of the Woods
The gods, however, were not much different than each of us as spiritual beings, except to the degree they were immortal, that is, free from having to inhabit a body.
With the advent of the Christian church 2,000 years ago, communication with the pagan gods was very heavily suppressed in Western civilization.
The gods once caused themselves to bring The Breath of Life itself to being.

Teachers@Random Catalog The Great God Pan by Donna Jo Napoli
The gods and goddesses of mythology rule the lives and control the fate of mortals; the gods expect devotion and punish mortals who don’t pay them the proper respect.
To anger a god or goddess is sure to bring death and destruction, but to have a god or goddess show you favor is sure to bring you joy and love.
Stories of a world filled with gods and goddesses and imaginary people and places are called myths.

 Pantheism
It does not believe in a transcendent or personal God who is the creator of the universe and the judge of humans.
Many pantheists feel the word "God" is too loaded with these connotations and never use the word in their own practice - though they may use it to simplify, or to explain things to theists.
Pantheism is the philosophy that everything is God (pan="everything" theos="God") or that the universe and nature are divine

 Peter Pan's Home ...
Besides, the God of Love that Jesus spoke of is the only one I serve.
Although Peter pan is definitely a boy, to me this character is perfectly androgynous, and in his eternal childhood rejects the idea of growing up and leaving this behind.
I guarantee that if you seek the God of love, but can't stand religion, you will be blessed by this site.

He was worshiped principally in Arcadia, and one legend states that he was the son of Hermes, another Arcadian god.

Banyas: Cult Center of the God Pan
A Greek inscription indicates that these niches date to the year 148: "The priest Victor, son of Lysimachos, dedicated this goddess to the god Pan, lover of Echo."
From time immemorial, the site had been visited by wandering shepherds who worshiped at the cave and the spring.
During the first century CE another shrine, dedicated to Pan and the Nymphs, was constructed east of the Temple of Augustus.

 Pan the God
Charles Boer, in many respects the 'Godfather' of the Festival, has written a superb article in Spring Journal #59 on the dilemma this epiphany poses to theologians and historians.
Pan, supposedly, made ALL the Gods and Goddesses laugh when Hermes, his daddy, brought him to Olympus.
he patron God of Pantheatre, with the goat feet and the two horns, was metamorphosed by Christianity into its arch-enemy, the Devil, Evil, because he personified sexuality.

Nor was the adult god more popular with the nymphs.
Pan was considered to be the cause of the sudden fear that sometimes comes for no reason, especially in lonely places.
Pan was born with the legs and horns of a goat, which caused his own mother to spurn him.

The death sentence is what is then carried out -- a bit too abstract to "sign," if you ask me. This is merely a quibble, of course, but at least it's not self-referential -- unless you count the bit about asking me. Good thing this isn't my autobiography I'm writing here.
God alone knows what it is. And I'm not holding my breath on that one anymore than Beckett was waiting for Godot.
I almost named my daughter Selene Godot, thinking it sounded cool.
