 Buddhism in Myanmar
Both Buddhist cultures in the south of Myanmar, the Mon and the Pyu, were swept away in the eleventh century by armies of the Myanmar who had found a unifying force in their leader, the founder of Pagan and champion of Buddhism, Anawratha.
This is apparent from bronze statues depicting Bodhisattvas and especially the "Lokanatha," a Bodhisattva believed, in Bengal, to reign in the period between the demise of the Buddha Gotama and the advent of the Buddha Metteyya.
