 Encyclopedia: Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism
{{buddhism}} Nichiren Shōshū Buddhism (日蓮正宗), with a growing number of believers worldwide, is a branch of Nichiren Buddhism based on the teachings of the 13th century Japanese Buddhist monk named Nichiren (1222-1282).
Nichiren Shoshu Buddhists believe that personal enlightenment can be achieved in one's present lifetime.
In Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism, the fundamental Object of Worship is the Dai-Gohonzon, which was inscribed by Nichiren Daishonin on October 12, 1279.

Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism - The Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin
Nichiren Shoshu teaches that the Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha, was also the original Buddha, and all mankind will achieve eternity if they share the nature of Buddha.
Founder: Nichiren Daishonin, a Buddhist priest who completed the entire study of Buddhism, founded the main philosophy of the group by realizing and establishing "True Buddhism," Nichiren Shoshu, as one of the Nichiren School's sects.

Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism-The Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin
Nichiren Shoshu is the 750 year old orthodox Buddhist denomination centered at Head Temple, Taisekiji, at the foot of Mt. Fuji in Japan.
Nichiren Shoshu has temples and centers worldwide and actively propagates the teachings of the True Buddha, Nichiren Daishonin, who made His advent in Japan in 1222.
All are invited to come learn about Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism and experience its beneficial power.

The Fuji Lineage: History of Nichiren Buddhism
Nichikan (1665-1726) was the 26th high priest of Taisekiji Temple and he is considered to be the one who consolidated and systematized the distinct doctrines of Nichiren Shoshu, especially the doctrine that Nichiren Shonin is the Eternal Buddha, not Shakyamuni Buddha.
Because of this, the idiosyncratic views of Nichiren Shoshu are the only ones commonly known outside Japan, though the major Nichiren schools in Japan view them as misreprentations of the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha and Nichiren Shonin.
The first development was the teaching of Nichigen (?-1486) of Nishiyama Honmonji identifying Nichiren Shonin as the Buddha.

 Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism
Practitioners of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo to the Gohonzon, a spiritually endowed likeness of the Dai-Gohonzon, enshrined in their homes.
Nichiren Shoshu would, of course, prefer that everyone who embraces the faith continue to practice with them but, in reality, this would be a very difficult standard to maintain; especially when one considers the depth of delusion believed to be so characteristic of those living in the Latter Day of the Law.
Nichiren Daishonin's primary objective may not have been to establish a particular Buddhist sect, but it was the inevitable outcome of His goal to ensure the purity of His Buddhism that one should develop.

Nichiren Shoshu (NS) claims to represent true Buddhism and to offer the world a scientifically enlightened form of religious practice.
Nichiren Shoshu priests and some laypersons have claimed occult and/or shamanistic powers, and part of daily worship involves an offering of ritual prayers to the dead.
Nichiren came to believe that the mystical essence of this sutra was embodied in the invocation Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo, the ceremonial chant used by Nichiren Shoshu Buddhists.

 Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism
I was introduced to Nichiren Buddhism and the Soka Gakkai by a friend in Spain and he told me that I should read "The Buddha in Daily Life" to learn everything I wanted to know about this Buddhism.
Causton finalized the revised text and renamed this book "The Buddha in Daily Life - An Introduction to the Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin." To me, "The Buddha in Daily Life" is the greatest book ever written in the English language about the practice and study of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism.
I highly recommend this book if you are interested in Buddhism and interested in Nam myoho renge kyo, or even if you have been chanting for many years.

What is the Buddhism of Nichiren
Nichiren taught that all of the benefits of the wisdom contained in the Lotus Sutra can be realized by chanting its title [Nam] Myoho Renge Kyo.
Nichiren Daishonin was persecuted throughout his life by the Japanese government and by religious powers who considered his revolutionary teachings a grave threat to their continued authority.
This is the fundamental practice of Nichiren Buddhism, performed morning and evening.

 Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism
Our Buddhism is reaching a critical point in its evolution, as we look towards the general Tozan (pilgrimage or journey to the Head Temple) on the 750th anniversary of the invocation of Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.
We can link through our Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist centres around the world to chant in Itai Doshin (unity) for the propagation of the Great Law throughout the world and to protect the organisation (Hokeko) and the Three Great Secret Laws.
In the Gosho - "The heritage of the ultimate law of life and death" - the true Buddha, Nichiren Dai Shonin states "all in all you should be like fish in water, transcending all differences between you to be of one mind - herein lies the heritage of the ultimate law of life and death."

 Nichiren Shoshu of the Philippines.
We are an organization representing the Head Temple Taisekiji and His Holiness The High Priest Nikken Shonin of the Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist Sect in the Republic of the Philippines.
The central part of our practice is chanting the words NAM-MYO-HO-REN-GE-KYO to the Gohonzon, the Object of Supreme Respect in Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism.
Our task is propagation of the True Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin in this country.

The Buddhism of the Mystic Law states that every conceivable desire, no matter how base, can be used to attain enlightenment through the process of transformation.
It believes that you do not have to undergo austerities and that life itself is the training ground that you conceive and process.
