Nazareth is not mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, nor in Josephus, nor in the Talmud.
Nazareth (Arabic الناصرة an-Nāṣirah; Hebrew נָצְרַת, Standard Hebrew Náẓərat, Tiberian Hebrew Nāṣəraṯ) is an ancient town in the North District in Israel.
The etymology of Nazareth from as early as Eusebius up until the 20th century has been said to derive from netser, a "shoot" or "sprout", while the apocryphal Gospel of Phillip derives the name from Nazara meaning "truth".

The Church of Annunciation in Nazareth is one of the most important churches to Christians.
Nazareth is first mentioned in the New Testament as the hometown of Jesus, the place where he started his preaching and from which he went to visit towns and villages in the Galilee to teach and to preach (Matthew 2:23; 4:13; Mark 1:9).
The Crusader Church of the Annunciation was destroyed with the fall of the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem in 1187 and again by the Mameluke Sultan Baybars in 1263.
