 Tractate Edut Chapter 4
MISHNA X.: If one abstain by vow from sexual intercourse with his wife, he is allowed by Beth Shamai to keep the vow for two weeks, by Beth Hillel for but one.
MISHNA XI.: If one vowed to remain a Nazarite for some time, and after the expiration of the term comes to the land (of Israel), Beth Shamai hold he must continue in the state of Nazarite for another thirty days, while Beth Hillel make him begin the whole term anew.
MISHNA IV.: Likewise do not Beth Shamai regard forgotten a sheaf left near a wall, a stag, a bull, or implements; while Beth Hillel do.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Talmud
The Mishna does not pretend to be a collection of sources of the Halakha, but merely to teach it.
Furthermore, the word Mishna is applied to the systematic collection of such doctrines, and finally to that collection which alone has attained canonical recognition, i.e.
The usual opinion, which originated with Maimonides, that its author was Rabbi Jochanan, who lived in the third century is untenable because of the names of the later scholars which occur in it.

 Marc Kivel's Munch & Learn
We studied the mishna “Tefillat Hashachar” which deals with prayer and until what time the set prayers must be said.
When the words “R’xxx says” follows a mishna or any other halachic statement, there will be an argument or 2nd opinion.
After reading this mishna, we came up with more questions than the mishna answered.

 rh63-ai
The Mishna proves the identity of the shofar from the battle against Jericho (Rosh Ha-shana 3:1).
When you are at war in your land against an aggressor who attacks you, you shall sound the terua on the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the Lord your God and be delivered from your enemies.
All the mishnayot are attempting to determine and circumscribe the correct and valid performance of shofar blowing, yet there is a progression.

 Talmud/Mishna/Gemara
The Mishna and the rabbinic discussions (known as the Gemara) comprise the Talmud, although in Jewish life the terms Gemara and Talmud usually are used interchangeably.
Although parts of the Mishna read as dry legal recitations, Rabbi Judah frequently enlivened the text by presenting minority views, which it was also hoped might serve to guide scholars in later generations (Mishna Eduyot 1:6).
The rabbis of Palestine edited their discussions of the Mishna about the year 400: Their work became known as the Palestinian Talmud (in Hebrew, Talmud Yerushalmi, which literally means "Jerusalem Talmud").

 Jewish History - The Mishna
Not the brazen serpent but the repentant heart cured afflicted Israel in the wilderness, the Mishna reminds us, pointing its moral with the quotation from the prophet Joel, "Rend your hearts, not your garments." To go beyond the Law in the keeping of one's word merits the highest praise.
About 150 authorities are quoted in the Mishna, involving about two thousand statements.
A complete translation of this section will be found in the Sabbath Afternoon Service of the Prayer Book.

Mishna - ENCYCLOPEDIA - The History Channel UK
Next to the Scriptures the Mishna is the basic textbook of Jewish life and thought, and is traditionally considered to be an integral part of the Torah revealed to Moses on Mount Sinai.
The penultimate tractate of the fourth Order is called Avot or Pirke Avot [chapters of the fathers], and unlike much of the rest of the Mishna consists of general moral and religious sayings.
See translation by H. Danby (1958); L. Ginzberg, Studies in the Origin of the Mishnah (1920); J. Neusner, A History of Mishnaic Law (1974) and Judaism: The Evidence of the Mishnah (1981).

Thunder from Sinai: Chapter 1, Mishna 15, Essay 22
There is a later text in the Mishna worded in this form: Fix a time for (the study of) Torah.
Those that were not, but were nonetheless studied by the scholars throughout Israel in their various yeshivos, were called Braisos, meaning 'external', since they were external to the Mishna.
Such was the work completed by Rebbe Yehuda Hanasi, in the 2nd century CE, some 150-200 years later.

 Meditation on a Mishna
Do this by intending that your mouth is a mere vessel/conduit to bring forth the letters of the words of this Mishna, and that the voice that emerges through the vessel of your mouth is [filled with] the sparks of your inner soul which are emerging and reciting this Mishna.
After that, you are ready to follow the meditation instructions in the article.
This will happen in the midst of your reciting the Mishna.

 Maharal - Chapter 1: Mishna 13: Part 1 - Torah.org
The Rambam (the Maharal is apparently paraphrasing Peirush HaMishnayoth on this Mishna) explains the first phrase in our Mishna to mean that when you see one whose "name" (reputation) spreads significantly (negad shma), know that his "name" is close to being lost (avad shmay).
But a better interpretation is based on explaining the word "negad" to mean power (see Shmuel I 13:14) as well as to mean continuity and existence.
(The questions in the coming paragraph were actually written in the first part of Mishna 12.

Rav Wosner says the Mishna Berura misread his sources while Rav Moshe says the psak of the Mishna Berura was correct.
However, he noted that most yeshivishe people agree as to what the Mishna Berura hold to be the halacha.
Rabbi Mordechai Tendler told me that when Rav Shneur Kotler was dying - people came to Rav Moshe and asked for a psak that he would live.

 The Mitzva of Charoset
In the commentary to the Mishna, the Rambam asserts that according to Rav Elazar ben Tzadok one must recite a Beracha upon consuming Charoset: "Al Achilat Charoset." However, in the Mishna Torah, where the Rambam rules in accordance with Rav Elazar ben Tzadok, the Rambam makes no mention of reciting a Beracha on the Charoset.
It explains that the Sages believe that Charoset merely serves to blunt the bitter taste of the Maror.
Rav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik (cited in the Siach Hagrid 74-77) explains the conceptual basis for the Rambam's change.

The first words of the Mishna are "From what time can one begin to fulfill his obligation to read Shema at night?" Not what or how, but when.
Kohanim, Kehati continues, teach us the concept of zerizut, an enthusiastic approach that says, "Always do something at the earliest possible time." And Rebbe didn’t just want to teach us that we "may begin" to say kriyat Shema as soon as the stars come out.

Ohr Somayach - Ask The Rabbi / Mishna, Talmud and Kabbalah
The Jewish people preserved the Mishna as an unwritten teaching for about 1,400 years.
When G-d taught Moshe the Torah at Mount Sinai, He didn't just give Moshe a written text (that wouldn't take 40 days!).
Not long after this, the leading Sages in Babylon again saw a decline in scholarship, so they wrote a more comprehensive explanation of the Mishna, called the Talmud.

 Mishna
It is written in the language of the sages, as spoken in the academies of Eretz Israel - Hebrew, strongly influenced by Aramaic, the vernacular of that period.
The editing of the Mishna was the last stage of the extended activity of the Tannaim - the sages of Eretz Israel in the 1st-2nd century.
The Mishna contains 63 tractates, arranged in six divisions: Zera'in (Agricultural), Mo'ed (Festivals), Nashim (Marriage), Nezikin (Damages), Kodashim (Sacrifices), and Tohorot (Purity).
