Methuselah - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Methuselah is mentioned in the Book of Enoch as being the son of Enoch and that he had brothers.
He is mentioned in Genesis as the son of Enoch and the father of Lamech (father of Noah), whom he fathered at the age of 187.
Methuselah or Metushélach (Hebrew מְתוּשֶׁלַח / מְתוּשָׁלַח "Man of the dart", or alternatively "when he dies, it shall be sent" Standard Hebrew Mətušélaḥ / Mətušálaḥ, Tiberian Hebrew Məṯûšélaḥ / Məṯûšālaḥ) was the oldest person whose age is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible.

 Methusela Lived How Long?
Methuselah is the oldest person recorded in Scripture, and his name is often used today when referring to something or someone very old.
In verse 21 of that chapter, we learn that Methuselah was the son of Enoch.
In light of this information, we can take the age of Methuselah when Lamech was born (187), add to that Lamech’s age when he begot Noah (182) and the age of Noah when the floodwaters came (600), and determine that Methuselah was 969 years old the year the Flood occurred [187+182+600=969].

 Methuselah (WebBible Encyclopedia) - ChristianAnswers.Net
Methuselah's name is mentioned seven times in the Bible: Genesis 5:21,22, 25,26,27; 1 Chronicles 1:3; Luke 3:37.
Methuselah's great age may be further evidence of God's "long-suffering...in the days of Noah" (1 Peter 3:20; 2 Peter 3:9).
This fact, plus the former possible meaning of his name, suggests that Methuselah's very godly father, Enoch, received a prophecy from God when his son was born, thus the name.
