Mahabharat is entrenched in the minds of all Indians and at last we are able to see the beautiful work of Chopra on DVD.
Described as "the greatest epic of all time", the Mahabharat television series is based upon the epic verse of the same name written by Rishi Ved Vynasa, an ancient Himalayan mystic, philosopher and thinker.
The story is portrayed in an excellent manner.

Ved Ramayan and Mahabharat and true Yog Vichar with Yogiraj Manohar Harkare
This is probably the first ever attempt in the history of Vedic religion that some one has tried to elaborate the real meaning of the Great Vedic scriptures.
When it was found to be not sufficient to attract the masses Gita was saparatly introduced in the Mahabharat.

Tribal 'Mahabharat' has epical deviations- The Times of India
Narrators incorporated interpolations in tune with their existing tribal traditions to make the story more acceptable amongst the tribal populace.
VADODARA: Ever heard of the epic Mahabharat with serpent god Vasuki as the protagonist, who fights Arjun for Draupadi?
In 'Bhilo Ka Bharat', a compilation of tales from the Doongri Bhil version of the Mahabharat, author Bhagwandas Patel says that for the tribals the epic is not one continuous narrative as it is in the standard text but presented in disjointed episodes.

The remaining CDs would give an insight on the apparatus used to determine the Sanskrit text of the Mahabharat’s critical edition.
“If the average man cannot or does not come to the institute, the scholars from this wisdom bank would go to them and explain them the philosophy of the Mahabharat,” he said.
In contrast, a series of CDs on Indian culture and its great manuscripts is a welcome relief,” he added.

 "Mahabharat" (1988)
Even without reference to the Sanskrit Mahabharata, Chopra's "Mahabharat" is dreadful.
I have seen this movie and would like to comment on it
Peter Brook's version, though flawed, is much more closer to the original.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Asia
It is the war of Mahabharat, the story of which is contained in a poem written about 500 B. C., that forms a part of the epic literature of ancient India.
The earliest event of Hindu historical chronology does not date farther back than 1400 B. C., and possibly later.

Mahabharat war occurred in 1478 BC: Scientist
This claim disputes the earlier known dates of the event, which is believed to have occurred in the Dwapara Yuga between 3100 and 3000 BC based on historical and archeological evidence.
Based on the study of eclipses and planetary positions mentioned in six printed versions of the epic, a scientist at the Indian Institute of Science claims the events referred to in the Mahabharat occurred between 1493 and 1443 BC.
If the Mahabharat war indeed took place in 1478 BC according to Professor R Narayana Iyengar, it raises the following questions.
