LWF: Nairobi Satement on Worship and Culture: Contemporary Challenges and Opportunities
We call on the Lutheran World Federation to make an intentional and substantial effort to provide scholarships for persons from the developing world to study worship, church music, and church architecture, toward the eventual goal that enhanced theological training in their churches can be led by local teachers.
Baptism and Eucharist, the sacraments of Christ's death and resurrection, were given by God for all the world.
We call on all member churches to recover the centrality of Baptism, Scripture with preaching, and the every-Sunday celebration of the Lord's Supper -- the principal transcultural elements of Christian worship and the signs of Christian unity -- as the strong center of all congregational life and mission, and as the authentic basis for contextualization.

Membership of the largest Lutheran church in the world—the Church of Sweden—remained unchanged at 7,399,915, while that of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, the third largest in the world, increased slightly to 4,606,543.
These statistics were reported, via an OCS survey, by LWF member churches, congregations and one council recognized by the LWF, and other Lutheran churches or organizations in infrequent contact with the Federation.
Membership of the 133 member churches, eleven recognized congregations and one recognized council of the LWF totaled 61.7 million (61,704,551) in 2001.

It is with great joy that I greet you all on behalf of your sister churches in the Lutheran World Federation.
It was a time when traditions were questioned and new commitments were made in expressions of spirituality to show the relevance of the word of God in daily life, in church and society.

The Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification was affirmed by the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and the Roman-Catholic Church and solemnly confirmed on 31 October 1999 in Augsburg, Germany.
For the LWF, the decision of its Assembly in Curitiba in 1990, in which the Federation is described as a communio of Lutheran churches, is obviously, albeit with many reservations, being recognised by its dialogue partner.
The World Methodist Council (WMC), congratulating the LWF and the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity (PCPCU) on the occasion of the confirmation of the Joint Declaration in Augsburg, said the agreement positively affects the course of relations between the Catholic Church and other Christian World Communions.

On the basis of this consensus the Lutheran World Federation and the Catholic Church declare together: "The teaching of the Lutheran churches presented in this Declaration does not fall under the condemnations from the Council of Trent.

 Anglican Communion: The Hanover Report
This reinvigoration of the diaconate has various roots: liturgical revival, a livelier sense of the church's mission in the world, and a renewed perception of rightful diversity in the church's ministries.
In this document the Anglican- Lutheran International Commission uses a theological model which it believes is especially suitable for locating diaconal ministry within the mission and ministry of the church as a whole.
For Jesus was crucified because his messianic mission was to be God's saving embrace of all Israel and of all the world.

Lutherans Concerned / North America is working to bring a vision for wholeness in gender identity, sexual orientation and eros-based justice to the theme of the Lutheran World Federation 10th Assembly, "For the Healing of the World."
While sexual and gender diversity are not officially on the agenda of the Lutheran World Federation 10th Assembly (July 21–31, 2003, Winnipeg, Canada) the assembly theme – "For the Healing of the World" – and the assembly study book can be fruitfully que(e)ried.

Public Theology: Lutheran World Federation Leader Critical of Iraq War
Therefore, I ask all LWF member churches to support the leaders and members of their sister churches in the USA with prayer and accompaniment, as they seek to fulfil their prophetic calling.
This issue should be reflected on by the churches, especially those such as the Lutheran churches that have integrated just-war theory into their theology.
In this regard, I would like to pay special tribute to Bishop Mark Hanson and the leadership of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, who have again and again represented the wider LWF communion in their own context and to their political leaders in a truly prophetic way.

 DIALOGUE WITH LUTHERAN WORLD FEDERATION
From the different Churches and Ecclesial Communities throughout the world, let us all hasten to the feast now being prepared; let us bring with us all that already unites us and, fixing our gaze on Christ alone, let us grow in the unity which is the fruit of the Spirit".
From the start the aim of the dialogue between Lutherans and Catholics has been the full and visible unity of the Church.
For the first time, the opening of the Holy Door at St Paul-Outside-the-Walls on 18 January 2000, at the beginning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, was given an ecumenical character.

As you will observe, the Catholic response recognizes the great effort made by the Lutheran World Federation, through a worldwide consultation with the synods of the member churches, to reach a consensus that would be truly meaningful.
In view, however, of the many discussions on this point in the Lutheran World Federation at Hong Kong and elsewhere, it was thought well to state the Catholic position clearly here for a more precise presentation of the Catholic doctrine in this connection.
It was felt, however, that even with such an overwhelming approval as the joint declaration received from these synods, there still remain important differences concerning the understanding by the two partners of authority in the church, which leave unanswered certain questions.

To ‘receive the Holy Spirit’ is to see what God is doing in and through the brokenness of our lives and world to bring healing and new life to human beings and the rest of creation.
Compared to most former Assembly themes, this one explicitly points to the world and various contexts in which we live.
For Luther, this was grounded especially in the Sacrament of Holy Communion, which we will celebrate daily at the Assembly.
