Pagan-friendly Unitarian carried out of Baptist seminar
Pagans, who tend to believe in the deity as being a part of nature and often taking a female form, were endorsed by the Unitarian church a decade ago as the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans, or CUUPS.
Thompson is not a pagan himself, but has described himself as pagan-friendly and says the seven pagans among his congregation of just over 100 are harmless and have a perfect right to worship as they will at the ceremonial circle they have set up in a wooded area behind the church in south Beaumont.
The Rev. Michael Thompson was ejected from the Baptist church and arrested on July 18, 1996, after refusing to leave the church's seminar about paganism.

 ipedia.com: Paganism Article
Paganism (or "Heathenism") is a catch-all term which has come to bundle together (by extension from its original classical meaning of a non-Christian religion) a very broad set of not necessarily compatible religious beliefs and practices that are usually, but not necessarily, characterized by polytheism and, less commonly, animism.
In one well-established sense, paganism is the belief in any non-monotheistic religion, which would mean that the Pythagoreans of ancient Greece would not be considered pagan in that sense, since they were monotheist, but not in the Abrahamic tradition.
It is the current popular fashion to insist that many pagan religions are based on nature, which presupposes a universal division between "nature" and "not nature" that might not actually apply to all cultures and religions.
