King James Version of the Bible - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Like the Great Bible and the Bishops' Bible, the King James Bible was "appointed to be read in churches".
In May 1601 King James VI of Scotland attended the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland at St. Columba's Church in Burntisland, Fife, and proposals were put forward for a new translation of the Bible into English.
King James's instructions made it clear that he wanted the resulting translation to contain a minimum of controversial notes and apparati, and that he wanted the episcopal structure of the Established Church, and traditional beliefs about an ordained clergy to be reflected in the new translation.

The King James Version of the Bible
A translation of the Bible is always affected by the spiritual character and faith of the translators.
For the men behind the English Bible were of such strong conviction, by the grace of God, that they would suffer imprisonment and death rather than renounce their faith in the Bible as God's infallible Word and as their sole authority for life and doctrine.
Myles Coverdale, who influenced the King James Version through his own Bible (1535), the Matthew's Bible to which he contributed one third, and the Great Bible which is a revision of his own work and that of Tyndale, was a strong supporter of the Faith of the Reformation.

Prior to this the Church of England had adopted the Bishops Bible (published in 1568), which was based on the Geneva Bible (published in 1560) which was based on the Great Bible (published in 1539), which was compiled by Miles Coverdale, which was based on Tyndale's Bible.
The KJV was published in order to provide a common text of the Bible to be used in Presbyterian Churches in Scotland and Episcopal Churches in England.
The King James Version was compiled by 47 scholars, which was mainly comprised of the Bishops Bible checked against Greek and Hebrew.

Although the writings known as the Apocrypha are often not included in Protestant Bibles, due to the fact that these ancient texts came to us in Greek (like the New Testament) and later Latin but not in Scriptural Hebrew.
It took many years for the 1611 Version to overtake the Geneva Bible in popularity with the people, but eventually the King James Version became the Bible of the English people.
The Aitken Bible by American Robert Aitken  (a `King James Bible` but calvinised, americanised) appeared in 1782, but was not recognized as Authorized (so short after Yorktown!!).

The King James version of the Holy Bible was translated into English during the 17th century.
Naturally this version of The Bible is written in the language of the 17th century and to modern readers it may seem a little strange to read everything written in this way.
One of the most remarkable things about The Bible is the fact that despite being copied down the ages it has arrived at our time largely the same as the way it was first written and this fact is backed by the many manuscripts that have survived down the ages from different periods of time.

The New King James Bible: Counterfeit
And among his greatest counterfeit's is the New King James Bible (NKJV).
Genesis 22:8: One of the greatest verses in the Bible proclaiming that Jesus Christ was God in the flesh: "God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering:" The NKJV adds that little word "for": "God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering" And destroys the wonderful promise!
And though the New King James does indeed bear a "likeness" to the 1611 King James Bible, as you'll soon see, there's something else coiled (see Genesis 3:1) "underneath the cover" of the NKJV.
