Topic: Key of Solomon

Key of Solomon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Key of Solomon is a grimoire or book on magic attributed to King Solomon (as several others were).
Unlike other similar books, the Key of Solomon does not mention any of the seventy-two spirits constrained by King Solomon in a bronze vessel as the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum (16th century) and the 17th century Lemegeton seal of the demons do.
Many books attributed to King Solomon were written in this 453-year period (AD 1000 to AD 1453), which was underscored by the Crusades and the influence that the contact with Jewish kabbalists and Arab alchemists had on European magicians and demonologists.

The Lesser Key of Solomon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lesser Key of Solomon or Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis (the Clavicula Salomonis, or Key of Solomon is an earlier book on the subject), is an anonymous 17th century grimoire, and one of the most popular books of demonology.
The book claims that it was originally written by King Solomon, although this is certainly incorrect.
The book asserts that this art was revealed by the Creator by means of an angel to King Solomon.

Key of Solomon: New Age Spirituality Dictionary on Key of Solomon the King
Temple of Solomon The building of this temple, according to the Bible, was first projected by King David, but on command of the Lord was not carried out by him because he had "shed much blood." David, however, assembled materials and workmen.
On these lines the building of Solomon's Temple was the inauguration and establishment of the teaching of nature's occult wisdom in Judea and surrounding territory.

 Miskatonic University Library - Grimoires
Ascribed to King Solomon (Solomon Rabbi), the Key of Solomon is one of the most popular grimoires in the Middle Ages, dealing with rituals, the operations of magic, and the requisite preparations for effective consummation.
Evocation of 72 demons associated with the Shemhamphorash, and (in pairs) with the decanates of the zodiac.
In Greek, (A.D. 100-400), the Testament of Solomon is based on the Old Testament and describes the building of the Temple by King Solomon with demoniac aid and the names and functions of the demoniac powers.

 Grimoires
Most powerful invocations are inspired from the words of Jesus: "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven..." Those grimoires who are associated with black magic and focus on the art to submit demons belong to the Goetia.
Also attributed to King Solomon and probably the most well known Grimoire, the Legemeton is a collection of medieval and post-medieval grimoires that originated in the twelfth century.
The Goetia or lesser Key of Solomon contains a list of 72 demonic spirits associated with the Shemhamphorash, and (in pairs) with the decanates of the zodiac, their powers and how to invoke them.

Unexplained Mysteries Discussion Forums > The Key of Solomon...
The key of Solomon is no big deal if you ask me- anybody over the age of 5 can set up those pentagrams, scribble the sigils, burn the incense and see for themselves that it's all fake.
It seems Solomon, who was given power over demons by a Holy angel through a ring, did in fact write these books, but I'd say this came after the 'white magic' one, where he himself seemed almost enslaved by them.
So you're saying that Solomon used these books to control demons, but that that must be wrong, because Solomon is a servant of God (or he is in the Bible, anyway)

Others again relate that he was employed by Solomon in the building of the Temple at Jerusalem; that he then attempted to dethrone Solomon, to put himself in his place; but that the King vanquished him and the Angel Gabriel chased him into Egypt, and there bound him in a Grotto.
It is said that he will be the one to dethrone Solomon, but that Solomon will force him to aid in the battle for the Jerusalem temple.
Others say that he was the Demon of impurity.

The Key of Solomon is reputed to be thousands of years old by some.
Devout prayers to God and a stern insistence on chastity, fasting, and cleanliness as prerequisites for success, are mingled with operations 'to bring destruction and to give death, and to sow hatred and dsicord', or 'for preparing powders provacative of madness'.
Circumstancial evidence now shows that the *Key of Solomon* has existed, in one form or another, from very remote antiquity.

RealMagick Article: The Key to the Key (and the Goetia) by Soror Samekh Rosae
The tradition of ceremonial magick holds that the Key of Solomon and the Goetia (the Lesser Key) recount a viable method for evoking spirits, through the use of conjurations, symbols (talismans or pentacles), prayers and action, under the auspices of the Jewish deity.
Thus, while the Key of Solomon and the Goetia are prized reference books, their actual usefulness is limited.
The Key of Solomon and the Goetia are not methods for evoking “external” entities; they are a means to bring forth one’s own innermost aspects - to draw on one’s ultimate potential to bring about, as Crowley wrote, “change in accordance with Will.”
