Justin Martyr - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Justin is confident that his teaching is that of the Church at large.
Justin's self-perception of himself was that of a scholar, although his skills in Hebrew were either non-existent or minimal.
The earliest mention of Justin is found in the Oratio ad Graecos by Tatian, who calls him "the most admirable Justin," quotes a saying of his, and says that the Cynic Crescens laid snares for him.

 Martyr
Justin became a faithful servant of Christ and valiant defender of the faith.
Justin was actually born in Samaria, although for many years he had almost no acquaintance with the Jewish religion or with the Christian faith.
Only faithful and often uneducated people of God, testifying of the truth and manifesting in their lives the joy of salvation, were the means God used to spread the gospel throughout the known world.

JUSTIN MARTYR - LoveToKnow Article on JUSTIN MARTYR
Justin is a most valuable authority for the life of the Christian Church in the middle of the 2nd century.
He then draws a positive demonstration of the truth of his religion from the effects of the new faith, and especially from the excellence of its moral teaching, and concludes with a comparison of Christian and Pagan doctrines, in which the latter are set down with naive confidence as the work of demons.
Thus Justin may give the impression of having rationalLzed Christianity, and of not having given it its full value as a religion of salvation.

 Patres - Volume 10, Issue 1
Justin explains to Trypho that the reason for his preaching to the Jews is "in the hope that some one of you may be found to be of the remnant which has been left by the grace of the Lord of Sabaoth for the eternal salvation" (32).
Justin believed that the apostles going forth from Jerusalem preaching the law and the word to the Gentiles was the manifestation of the mountain of the Lord being established and that the preaching of the gospel had already accomplished the "beating of swords into plowshares" (109,110).
Justin continually stresses the continuity of the covenants and the right of the church to claim the title of Israel.

Justin Martyr: Defender for the Church - Probe Ministries
Justin was one of the church's earliest apologists or defenders.
He took Justin to the Hebrew prophets who were before the philosophers, he said, and who spoke "as reliable witnesses of the truth."{6} They prophesied of the coming of Christ, and their prophecies were fulfilled in Jesus.
Justin's conviction of the truth of Christ was so complete, that he died a martyr's death somewhere around 165 A.D. Eusebius, the early church historian, said he was denounced by the Cynic Crescens with whom he engaged in debate shortly before his death.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: St. Justin Martyr
Throughout his exposé of the new religion it is Christian chastity and the courage of the martyrs that he most insists upon.
Justin replies that according to the Prophets themselves the law should be abrogated, it had only been given to the Jews on account of their hardness.
This opinion of Justin is upheld, moreover, by the Church who, in her public service reads the memoirs of the Apostles as well as the writings of the prophets (I Apol., lxvii, 3).

Indeed from the perspective of Justin Martyr as an apologist trying to defend the legitimacy of Christianity, it's very important that he can hold up a model of other people, other well known, famous people the past in Greek and Roman tradition who similarly died for their beliefs.
So Justin's apology for Christianity is also a philosophical argument for the legitimacy of Christianity within the larger purview of Roman intellectual and religious life....

The Restoration Principle - Alfred T. DeGroot - Justin Martyr
Justin Martyr is one of the proof-text persons used to prove that there was no interest in a pattern for Christian Worship.
Because DeGroot's motive is to denounce churches of Christ as "sectarian" for refusing to add instrumental music as worship, it is important to know that all of the "fathers" denounce instrumental music as a pagan force which had not -- during their times -- dared to be used in Christian worship.
Perhaps it is easy for DeGroot and the more modern proponents of a "core" gospel to dismiss the Apostolic church idea and the apostles and the Epistles because they believe, along with Catholics, that the New Testament was a human development of the evolving church.

Justin was born around 100 (both his birth and death dates are approximate) at Flavia Neapolis (ancient Shechem, modern Nablus) in Samaria (the middle portion of Israel, between Galilee and Judea) of pagan Greek parents.
(It is suggested that Crescens lost the debate and denounced Justin to the authorities out of spite.) He was tried before the Roman prefect Rusticus, refused to renounce Christianity, and was put to death by beheading along with six of his students, one of them a woman.
Many Christians, on the other hand, noted that the LXX is the version usually quoted in the New Testament, even when it differs from the Hebrew.

Impressed by the devotion of Christian martyrs, he was eventually converted to Christianity by an old Christian who taught him about the Hebrew prophets.
He was one of the first to consistently use Greek philosophy (especially Platonism) to explain Christian doctrine, thereby setting himself in dramatic opposition to Tertullian, who would ask "what does Athens have to do with Jerusalem?" The Logos (God immanent), he believed, was "other than" the Father (God transcendent) in number, but not in will.
Three of his writings, The First Apology, The Second Apology, and The Dialogue with Trypho, the Jew, exist in complete form, though there is some question about the precise relationship between the First and Second Apology.

It was by men such as Justin Martyr that Trinity doctrine developed over the first few centuries.
Given here are some quotes from Justin Martyr, so-called "church father" and early builder of what later became Trinitarianism, showing his exceeding error in assuming that Pagans, such as Socarates and Plato, heard from God!
Such concessions reveal the questionable doctrine of the trinity to be that which believers in Jesus Christ ought to safely stay away from.
