Jotham was twenty- five years old when he ascended the throne, and his reign is said to have extended over sixteen years.
Holy Scripture simply informs us that "in those days Jehovah began to send against Judah Rezin, the king of Syria, and Pekah, the son of Remaliah" (2 Kings 15:37).

 jotham
King Uzziah was stricken with leprosy by the Lord because he offered the incense in the Temple (the priests were the only ones who were supposed to do that), and his son Jotham took his place.
When Jeroboam died (probably just a couple of years before Jotham became king), his son was quickly killed by a man who became king but was also killed by another man who became king.
According to the Bible, Jotham was a righteous king, but did not enter the Temple (2 Chronicles 27:2).

Encyclopedia4U - Kingdom of Judah - Encyclopedia Article
For the first sixty years the kings of Judah aimed at re-establishing their authority over the kingdom of the other ten tribes, so that there was a state of perpetual war between them.
In the Old Testament, the Kingdom of Judah is the nation formed from the territories of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin after the Kingdom of Israel was divided.
For about another century and a half Judah had a somewhat checkered existence after the termination of the kingdom of Israel till its final overthrow in the destruction of the temple ( 586 BC) by Nebuzar-adan, who was captain of Nebuchadnezzar 's body-guard (2 Kings 25:8-21).

 16. Isaiah Prophets to Judah.(Summary)
While the Northern Kingdom is tottering on to decay, God commissions the prophet Isaiah to become a mighty voice of judgment and hope to Judah.
Isaiah& call (Chapter 6) is a classic experience: In the midst of national breakup and personal crisis he suddenly confronts the Holy God, who only is King.
The first cycle of messages against Judah (Chapters 2-12) tell of the nature of the judgment: against the background of the glory of God’s Kingdom purpose (2:1-4) we see the foreground of Judah’s baseness (2:5-4:1).

 Isaiah
Most of Israel and Judah would not respond to Jehovah’s chastisements; He would be “a sanctuary” to the few, but “a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to [the majority of] both the houses of Israel” (Isaiah 8:13, 14), just as Jesus would be later at the first advent.
Everything about Isaiah seems devoted to his ministry, and this kind of consecrated faith, applied earnestly in distressing circumstances, is an example of godly devotion even for the New Creation.
Ahaz was one of the most wicked kings of Judah, and God punished him severely (2 Chronicles 28:1-8).

 UZZIAH, JOTHAM AND AHAZ
Jotham apparently had many commendable characteristics, but he failed to do his duty when he did not enter the temple of the Lord.
We would say of Jotham if he were living in the Christian era: “He did not attend the services of the church.”   I am aware of the differences between the temple and modern church buildings.
We learn from the life of Jotham that it is sinful not to meet and worship with GodÂ’s people.

Judah is then given a warning to not follow IsraelÂ’s evil example (verse 15).
It was apparently sometime during these four years—when Ahaz was sole king even though Jotham was still alive—that God began to allow Syria under Rezin and Israel under Pekah to begin menacing Judah (2 Kings 15:37), a turn of events we’ll see more about in an upcoming reading.
The message here is directed primarily to the southern kingdom of Judah, as only Jewish kings are mentioned (verse 1), the “faithful city” (Jerusalem) is reprimanded (verses 21-26) and the sacrificial temple system is discussed.

The remaining kings of Judah are Manasseh (current king), Amon, Josiah, Jehoahaz, Eliakim/Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin and Zedekiah - the last king of Judah recorded in the Bible until the advent of Jesus Christ.
Through the discussions between King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, Hezekiah would have known in advance, through faith, that he had God on his side, and that God would rescue him and his people from the threat of the Assyrians at this time, even though Sennachareb of Assyria had taken the fenced cities of Judah.
If the calendar used at the time of King Ahaz of Judah was based on a 365 solar day y ear, then over a period of 365 years, an 88.5125 days adjustment would have been made to cater for the 0.2425 days short per year.

Ahaz, king of Judah, at this crisis refused to co-operate with the kings of Israel and Syria in opposition to the Assyrians, and was on that account attacked and defeated by Rezin of Damascus and Pekah of Israel (2 Kings 16:5; 2 Chronicles 28:5, 6).
Isaiah on that occasion encouraged Hezekiah to resist the Assyrians (37:1-7), whereupon Sennacherib sent a threatening letter to Hezekiah, which he "spread before the Lord" (37:14).
According to the account in Kings (and its derivative account in Chronicles) the judgement of God now fell on the Assyrian army.

 whatin Judah
Isaiah, a prophet in the southern kingdom of Judah, had four major periods of prophecy between the years 742 -701 BCE.
One of these times was when Ahaz was king of Judah and the Assyrian king Tiglath-Pileser had initiated a campaign from the north into Syria and the northern kingdom of Israel (738 BCE).
The kings of Syria (Rezin) and Israel (Pekah) sought to replace by force the Judean king, Ahaz, in the city of Jerusalem.

Bible Commentary: Matt. 1:1-17; Luke 3:23b-38 - Jesus' Genealogy
No problem comes until we compare the two versions of the succession from David to Jesus: Matthew's list Luke's list (in inverse order) David David Solomon Nathan Rehoboam Mattatha Abijah Menna Asa Melea Jehoshaphat Eliakim Jehoram Jonam Uzziah Joseph Jotham Judah Ahaz Simeon Hezekiah Levi Manasseh Matthat Amon Jorim Josiah Eliezer Jeconiah Joshua Shealtiel............
Of course only Luke gives the generations from Adam to Abraham, and the lists of progenitors between Abraham and David as given by Matthew and Luke are nearly identical.
How can the two genealogies be harmonized without sacrificing the historical integrity of either?
