"The Chinese in America: Transcontinental Railroad," by Iris Chang
Iris Chang is the recipient of numerous honors, including the John T. and Catherine D MacArthur Foundation's Program on Peace and International Cooperation Award, the Woman of the Year Award from the Organization of Chinese Americans, and an honorary doctorate from the College of Wooster in Ohio.
Monumental changes were about to take place that would transform not only the lives of people inside China, but also their entire relationship to the world beyond China's borders.
Chang wrote a book Chinese in America in which she wrote of the history of the Central Pacific Railroad, parts of which I found conficting to the history that I had learned, the hard way, walking the grade, and reading old news articles.

Amazon.com: The Rape of Nanking: Books: Iris Chang
Chang turns up an unlikely hero in German businessman John Rabe, a devoted member of the Nazi party who importuned Adolf Hitler to intervene and stop the slaughter, and who personally saved the lives of countless residents of Nanking.
Unfortunately, there is no separate bibliography although Chang does include a notes section which indicates her source material.
Chang tells of the Sino-Japanese War atrocities perpetrated by the invading Japanese army in Nanking in December 1937, in which roughly 350,000 soldiers and civilians were slaughtered in an eight-week period, many of them having been raped and/or tortured first.
