Islamic philosophy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Islamic philosophy (الفلسفة الإسلامية) is a part of the Islamic studies, and is a longstanding attempt to create harmony between faith, reason or philosophy, and the religious teachings of Islam.
The main sources of classical or early Islamic philosophy are the religion of Islam itself - especially ideas derived and interpreted from Quran - and the Greek philosophical heritage which the early Muslims inherited as a result of conquests when Alexandria, Syria and Jundishapur came under Muslim rule.
The tradition of Islamic Philosophy is still very alive today despite the beliefs of many Western cycles considering this tradition to have abruptly ceased after the golden ages of Mulla Sadra’s doctrine and Suhrawardi’s (Mulla Sadra’s doctrine is called Hikmat-e-Mota’aliye or Transcendent (Exalted) Philosophy and Suhrawardi’s as Hikmat al-Ishraq or Illumination Philosophy).

Some of his ideas from English (which he claimed were from the Islamic tradition) were reprinted in Urdu and caused outrage among conservative Muslim scholars in Pakistan.
Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi who is credited with creating modern Islamist political thought in the 20th century, argued that science was itself merely re-discovering that all matter and energy obeys laws, and that Kafir claims that humankind was free of obligation to comprehend and obey such laws, had to be resisted by Muslims.

Islamic philosophy : Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy Online
Islamic philosophy has always had a rather difficult relationship with the Islamic sciences, those techniques for answering theoretical questions which are closely linked with the religion of Islam, comprising law, theology, language and the study of the religious texts themselves.
The argument was often that a higher level of understanding of reality can be attained by those prepared to develop their religious consciousness outside of the framework of traditional religion, a view which was supported and became part of a highly sophisticated account of the links between religion and reason as created by Ibn Rushd.
This had a particularly strong influence on ethics (see Ethics in Islamic philosophy), where there was much debate between objectivists and subjectivists, with the latter arguing that an action is just if and only if God says that it is just.
