 Holy Synod - OrthodoxWiki
Membership in the holy synod is determined by the traditions and canonical documents of a particular church.
Holy Synod in this usage is distinct from an Ecumenical Council, which may also informally be called a holy synod and consists of bishops from throughout the Orthodox Church, acting together to deal with Church-wide issues.
All autocephalous and some autonomous churches have their own church-wide holy synods, and there may also be local ones (often called eparchial synods), as well, especially if a particular church has territory spread out over a large area.

Points of Reflection for the Holy Synod
We ask the Holy Synod to enjoin the faithful to deport themselves in churches and other holy places with the reverence due the Eucharistic Lord and/or called for by the particular place.
That Church, Holy and Catholic, which is the Mystical Body of Christ, is made up of the faithful who are organically united in the Holy Spirit through the same faith, the same sacraments and the same government and who, combining into various groups held together by a hierarchy, form separate churches or rites.
We ask the Holy Synod never to permit such practices in the Ukrainian Church, and to keep in mind also that such practices are used by feminist and neo-Modernist ideologues to agitate for the supposed eventual ‘ordination’ of priestesses.

 ADDRESS TO HOLY SYNOD
On the afternoon of Friday, 4 May, the Holy Father went to the Palace of the Archbishop of Athens and of all Greece, Archbishop Christodoulos, to pay a formal visit to him and the Holy Synod.
It is tragic that the assailants, who had set out to secure free access for Christians to the Holy Land, turned against their own brothers in the faith.
The Catholic Church is convinced that she must do all in her power to "prepare the way of the Lord" and to "make straight his paths" ( Mt 3:3); and she understands that this must be done in company with other Christians — in fraternal dialogue, in cooperation and in prayer.

STATEMENT OF THE HOLY SYNOD OF BISHOPS - June 15, 1999
Therefore, the Holy Synod of Bishops addresses International forces, now occupying Kosovo and Metohia, to protect equally the rights of the Albanians and their return to their homes, as well as the Serbian people and the members of the other nationalities living on Kosovo and Metohia.
The Holy Synod of Bishops is deeply worried, due to the most recent events on Kosovo and Metohia and the latest exodus of our people living in that province.
Every reasonable man understands clearly that numerous internal problems and contradictions, as well as the isolation of our country on the international level, cannot be settled and overcome with such a government, and under the present conditions.
