Hezekiah - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
By Albright's calculations, Jehu's initial year is 842 BCE; and between it and Samaria's destruction the Books of Kings give the total number of the years the kings of Israel ruled as 143 7/12, while for the kings of Judah the number is 165.
His father (2 Kings 16:2) died at the age of thirty-six; it is not likely that Ahaz at the age of eleven should have had a son.
Professor Aurel Ponori-Thewrewk, retired director of the planetarium of Budapest, Hungary, may have been the first scholar to offer an astronomical explanation for this passage; observing that new Bible translations use "the sundial of Ahaz," while other Bibles "the stairway of Ahaz," he states that the original Hebrew text says ma(c)alóth, the plural of ma(c)alah.

TFBA - Hezekiah's Reforms and the Revolt against Assyria
Hezekiah initiated his reforms in the first year of his reign when he repaired the doors of the Temple, purified the Temple and its furnishings, and re-instituted the cult “according to the rule prescribed by David, by Gad the king’s seer, and Nathan the prophet” (2 Chr 29:25).
Hezekiah’s religious reforms and his revolt against Assyria were part of a grand scheme to restore the glory of the old Davidic monarchy.
As stated in 2 Chr 30:1-2, "Hezekiah sent word to all Israel and Judah, and also wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh, inviting them to come to the house of the LORD the God of Israel.

 Who is Hezekiah?
Hezekiah was a son of a godless father, King Ahaz (2 Kings 16:2-4).
Hezekiah became king in 716/715-687/686 B.C. He immediately removed and destroyed the false religious worship in Israel and restored the temple worship, sacrifices, the Levitical and priestly ministries and Passover (2 Chronicles 29:1-32:33).
For me the crowning jewel of Hezekiah's life is that he not only walked with God but he remained faithful to the Lord throughout his life.

 "Hezekiah" by Robert I Bradshaw
Hezekiah’s response was to tear his clothes, put on sackcloth and go into the Temple.
Threatened by attacks from Aramean, Israelite, Edomite and Philistine (28:17-18) forces which resulted in the death of another of Hezekiah’s brothers (28:7) Ahaz made a decision that was to have far-reaching consequences for his descendants: he made himself a vassal of the king of Assyria (2 Kings 16:7-9).
Although Isaiah told Hezekiah to prepare for death the King sought the Lord and received a twofold promise: a fifteen year extension of his life and deliverance of Jerusalem from the Assyrian threat (2 Kings 20:2-6; Isa.

 Prophets and Kings
Hezekiah and his associates instituted various reforms for the upbuilding of the spiritual and temporal interests of the kingdom.
"Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, that God had prepared the people: for the thing was done suddenly." Verses 24, 29, 36.
The reign of Hezekiah was characterized by a series of remarkable providences which revealed to the surrounding nations that the God of Israel was with His people.

Biblical people: Hezekiah (King of Judah)
Hezekiah, son of King Ahaz, and mother Abijah, became king at age 25.
With the encouragement of the prophet Isaiah, Hezekiah undertook a religious reform, in removing idolatrous elements from worship, cleansing and sanctifying the Temple, and restoring the Levites to their Temple duties.
Later, King Sennacherib invaded Judah, surrounded Jerusalem, and sent Hezekiah a letter, stating, basically, that Judah should surrender, claiming that the Assyrian gods were stronger than the Lord God.

HEZEKIAH (2) in the Bible Encyclopedia - ISBE (Bible History Online)
It is in Hezekiah's times especially that the Assyrian inscriptions become illuminating for the history of Israel; for one important thing they furnish certain fixed dates to which the chronology of the times can be adjusted.
As, however, these were to begin with only the initial ideas of a spiritual "remnant," the king's sympathies must needs be identified at heart, not with his imperious nobles and princes, but with a minority of the common people, whose religious faith did not become a recognizable influence in the state until after 701.
Our estimate of Hezekiah's character is most consistently made by regarding him as a disciple of Isaiah, who was earnestly minded to carry out his prophetic ideas.

 King Hezekiah - Biography
Hezekiah's great grandfather King Uzziah and grandfather King Jotham were godly and wise men who had increased Judah's prosperity and influence to levels unknown since the days of David and Solomon.
King Hezekiah came to the throne in the wake of his father's disasters, and with the memory the glory days of his grandfather King Jotham, who still reigned when Hezekiah was a child.
The prophet Isaiah, foreseeing Babylon's rise, reprimanded Hezekiah's lack of faith, telling him that in generations to come, Babylon would abuse Hezekiah's descendents — and that Hezekiah, by his faithless influence on the diplomats, helped spur their evil cause.

Daily Bible Study - Hezekiah's Tunnel
Hezekiah was the king of Judah from about 726-697 B.C. (see Kings of Israel and Judah).
Hezekiah looted much of the silver and gold by stripping it from the original Temple of God (2 Kings 18:15-16) (see Temples) that had been constructed by King Solomon.
When Sennacherib succeeded his father Sargon as the king of Assyria (see Ancient Empires - Assyria), Hezekiah refused to continue paying tribute.

Abdicate - Chronology accorging to Scripture
Hezekiah had the priests cleanse the house of the Lord the 1st of Nisan and finished on the 16th having sanctified the Temple in his 1st year, II Chronicles 29:3.
Encyclopaedia Britannica says 706 is the year in which for 9 months Marduk-Baladan ruled that mentioned the visitors from Babylon to Hezekiah and Isaiah's prophecy II Kings 20:16-19, Isaiah 39, Berodahbaladan son of Baladan king of Babylon heard Hezekiah was sick and sent him letters.
Hezekiah ran to the Lord and Isaiah said God would defend Jerusalem for His sake, and killed 185,000 men of Assyria with an angel.

Isaiah 38 - King Hezekiah’s Life is Spared
But under the New Covenant, we are blessed on the principle of faith in Jesus (Galatians 3:13-14).
Also, under the Old Covenant Hezekiah would have regarded this as evidence that God was very displeased with him.
Again, Hezekiah’s thinking is based in the cloudy understanding of the world beyond before life and immortality were brought to life through the gospel of Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 1:10).

 Hezekiah
Hezekiah took advantage of the festival to consolidate his religious reforms and to return the people to the worship of God: "A great crowd assembled at Jerusalem to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread in the second month, a very great congregation.
Hezekiah renewed the full-scale worship of the Israelite God following a lengthy period in which idol-worship had taken root in the city: "He abolished the shrines and smashed the pillars and cut down the sacred post.
His pragmatic approach was scornfully criticized by the prophet Isaiah, who was very active and highly influential in Jerusalem during this period: "Ha!

 The Reign of King Hezekiah
Hezekiah asked the seer: “What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?” Isaiah& answer was:
But if Sennacherib invaded Judah in -701, and this should be Hezekiah’s fourteenth year, then this king of Jerusalem must have started to reign in -715, or seven years after the accepted date for the fall of Samaria
And this shall be a sign unto thee from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing that he hath spoken.

 Hezekiah - King of Judah
However, Hezekiah sought deliverance on the basis that God would be glorified.
Instead, Hezekiah humbly sought the Lord first and soley: "Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his (Assyria's) hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only" (II Kings 19:19).
What blessing can be ours if, like Hezekiah, we would only seek the Lord in all we do and let Him do His will through us.

Hezekiah himself was raised in the church and in a home where the sounds of sweet Gospel music filled the air and church attendance was assumed.
In a world where life seemed harsh and unfair, Hezekiah’s mother shepherded her boy out of harm’s way and into church where he gave his life to Christ at the age of 13.
From the harsh, inner-city surroundings, Hezekiah has today risen to be the founder, builder and leader of one of America’s cutting-edge gospel choirs.

 Miracles Wrought for Hezekiah
The Divine plan had been to make Hezekiah the Messiah, and Sennacherib was to be God and Magog.
Liberated by Hezekiah, the two rulers returned to their respective realms, spreading the report of the greatness of God everywhere.
His letter read as follows: "Peace be with Hezekiah, peace with his great God, and peace with Jerusalem." After the letter was dispatched, it occurred to Baladan that it had not been composed properly.

King Hezekiah - Godliness under pressure!
It is the living God that is being insulted Hezekiah says, and if there is to be any deliverance it is so that God may again be glorified.
While Hezekiah may still have been thinking in the natural, there is considerable spiritual relevance in these verse for us.
It is so that the nations may see that the God of Israel is the true God.

Judaism: Hezekiah's boil - biblical anecdote
The Assyrian writings confirm what we might expect: Assyria first crushed rebellious Babylon, and thereafter Sennacherib marched west and south in order, he thought, to teach Hezekiah an equally ruinous lesson, and this siege, according to Assyrian inscriptions, took place in the year 701 BCE.

The balladry is intense here as Walker puts a fitting bookend on the album, expressing his (and our) need for church brotherhood and prayer —and above all else —Jesus, to survive through all that goes on in our lives.

 Does Hezekiah Prefigure Modern Events?
And, although described as the Chief Baker (Genesis 40:1-23,19,22), Hezekiah was not hanged.   He was destined for death but repented (Isaiah 38:1-6).   Instead of death his repentance gained him 15 more years (Isaiah 38:5; II Kings 20:6).   Thus, Hezekiah undoubtedly removed evildoers from his administration (Proverbs 25:5).
Hezekiah's Reign:   However, King Hezekiah's reign also represents the start of the reign of the Seventh Kingdom of the North and beyond which commenced in the Spring of 1988 AD, i.e.
Hezekiah, King of Judah (Isaiah 38:9; 37:10), means "strengthened of JAH" (Strong's #2396).   Thus, Hezekiah represents one of the two powers reigning over the Seventh World Kingdom.

 Hezekiah
Because his mom’s family was so steeped in funk and gospel roots that they formed their own band, and because Hezekiah spent his childhood in the projects of Chester, Pa., as well as the suburbs of New Castle, Del., the 28-year-old’s unlikely upbringing helps ensure that he doesn’t face musical stagnancy.
Just as comfortable with the notion of slam dancing to Bad Brains as he is covering a Prince classic, and then fluidly easing into inventing a rhyme onstage at a jam session, he is light years ahead of the school of thought that tells him what kind of music he can and can’t make.
Remain one of the clueless or catch him live and in free form performing songs from his latest single, "Is it Just Music," b/w "The Ultra Shit" and "Love and War" (remix) along with Richard Raw and Miss Saigon.

City of David and Hezekiah's Tunnel, Jerusalem
As for the other events of Hezekiah's reign, all his achievements and how he made the pool and the tunnel by which he brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?
The account of the construction of Hezekiah's water tunnel under Jerusalem by King Hezekiah shortly before the city was besieged by Sennacherib in about 701 BC is described in 2 Kings 20:20 and 2 Chronicles 32:2-4, 30.
When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and that he intended to make war on Jerusalem, he consulted with his officials and military staff about blocking off the water from the springs outside the city, and they helped him.
